Peavey USA Wolfgang Special Amber Quilt
I've been looking at a Peavey Wolfgang USA Special amber quilt top. I used to have a wolfgang special minus the quilt top and loved it. Is there any difference in the tonal qualities between the two? Also, what would you say is a fair price for one that is in near mint condition? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

I guarantee you haven't been looking at one unless it is A) A KOR Wolf EXP or B) A retopped Wolf Special. In that case, maybe you've been looking at the Wolfang Special Flametop, which is a fine guitar.
I've owned just about every incarnation of the Wolf, save for the stoptail. Tonal qualities...I'd say the Wolf Special Flametop is a bit brighter than a straight special. Near Mint, we're talkin on Ebay here? That's hard to say because prices have gotten a bit insane one the USA specials alone. Going from that I'd say the $700(if you're lucky) to the $1000 price range for one that is maybe a bit better than near mint. Anything a little over that upper end isn't insane if it's what YOU want and it's in great shape. Unfortunately you're probably going to have to shell out a little bit more for Wolves these days because that's just where the prices have gone. I honestly wouldn't go over a grand unless you had the cash and it's what you wanted - because they are fine guitars.FUCK THE DUMB SHIT!!!!

Dan:
Where is the guitar you're looking at? If it's eBay, post the link (or PM it to me). I'll advise you on the guitar, as you certainly want to be absolutely sure about what you're buying.
Scroll down the guitar forum and look at the thread I started a while back titled "Morons & Educating Yourself on the Guitar You're Buying."

Listen to the above two posts. If it is a special with a quilt top you can be 99.9999% sure it is korean.

Thanks
Guys,
Thanks so much for the info. I used the wrong terminology in my initial post. It is not a quilt top, but rather a flame top. It is the USA flametop special. Sorry for the incorrect info. Again, thanks for the input.
