The official Speed Racer movie thread
Well, Hollywood is set to destroy another fond childhood memory. They are planning on bringing Speed Racer to the big screen as a "live action" feature. The only thing live will be the actors. Remember Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow? Yeah. me either. The Wachowski Bros.(The Matrix Revolutions) are handling the writing and directing duties while Joel Silver (Ghost Ship, The Adventures of Ford Fairlane) is producing.
They've already screwed the pooch with a few poor casting decisions. Emile Hirsch (Who?) as Speed and Christina (4' 9") Ricci as Trixie. Hirsch is a chubby 5' 6" asian-looking manchild best known for starring opposite the beautiful Elisha Cuthbert in 2004's "The Girl Next Door".

Yeah, that Emile kid may not be a great choice for Speed. Though Christina Ricci is a fine choice for Trixie.
However, this flick will probably hinge on two things...how well the Matrix boys pull off the CGI stuntplay execution of the Mach 5, and whoever plays Racer X.
Which rumor has it, will be Nick Cage, a long time Speed Racer fan.

Emile first caught my attention in The Secret Life Of Alter Boys and I've tried to catch most of his flicks after, because he's actually a pretty good, convincing young actor.
Lets just hope that as Speed, he can pull off that patented "Huuhhh!!" when needed.
Christina Ricci might be a little too old for Trixie though.Last edited by Number 47; 12.18.07 at 04:34 PM.

Yeah I don't see Ricci as Trixie. That's an odd casting choice. Not that I'm even gonna go see this. I'd rather watch the cartoons.

OK, now I'm confused, as I read this very morning that Matthew Fox (Jack on ABC's "Lost") was in final negotiations for the role.
Check it out:
