I raised chickens as a kid and know first hand how mind numbingly stupid creatures they truly are. You gotta figure that anything that can actually run around without a head for 15 minutes or so before it bleeds to death probably isn't carrying much upstairs in the first place.

If a T Rex had a chicken brain, I doubt it could have been very successful as a predator. I'd be more inclined to believe that a vegetarian species of dinosaur had something in common with chickens.

But logically, wouldn't the pterodactyl, as the only flying reptile, be the probable ancestor of birds of any kind?

No, You are mistaking function with evolution. Flying dinosaurs don't even fly in the same way as birds. The feathers did not evolve for flight but just because of random mutation and in some way they were beneficial to the creature and thus they were passed on through reproduction. At some point the feathers started to be used for flight. And as far how stupid chickens are, they survived millions of years before humans. T-rex are a distant relative. They both have a common ancestor is all this means.

We raised a few over the years too & come dinner time, My dad would ring a neck. I remember the first time he did, the bird hit the ground running & chased my older sister all over the yard. That's about as funny a thing to a 5 YO boy as anything in the world. She is still gets pissed when we laugh about it.
