Ed's Broken Hand in 1982

Alright, I'm looking at my VH enclyclopedia yesturday and in the timeline area it states that Ed had his hand x-rayed in 1982, 3 broken bones were found and dates of the "Hide Your Sheep Tour" had to be cancelled. Now I was thinking and the story I heard waaaaaaay back in the day was that Ed broke his hand taking a swing at Dave, seems dave had screwed Al's wife...Ed found out and took a swing at Dave, Dave ducked and Ed ended up hitting the wall. From what I remember the band was gonna film some shows for a video release and they scrapped it cause of this.

Does anyone else believe this or remember it or is my overactive imagination playing tricks on me?

But I do remember Alex was married to someone named "Valerie" (not that Valerie) briefly during this time. Was it this wife, his first wife, that Dave *did or did not* screw?

there was a book that I had awhile ago that talked about this, can't remember the name but it was by a british guy who was a big rothtard and he talked about it. I think that's the story but I can't find the book...

Yes, I remember the exact same story.

They officially stated (back in the day) that Ed slipped in teh bathroom and broke his hand. But the truth is that Ed found out that Dave had sex with a "Valerie Van Halen" and Ed naturally thought of his wife Valerei Bertinalli. So he wanted to kick Daves ass, they wrestled and Ed hit against a wall somehow durinbg the fight.
Later it turned out that Dave screwed Alex girlfriend, also named Valerie (can't remember her last name).

My wife's cousin remembers that tour because Ed had some type of bandage on his hand when they played in Philly.

How did he do it....I don't know.

The story I heard was that Ed had slipped on the stage due to the stage being slippery with food all over it. I think your story is a little out there. Stop reading Star magazine!

I think the womans Alex was married to was named Valerie Kendall. I think they had something like a two month marrige or theabouts. I always thought he married her around 1984. I'm pretty sure he met Kelly during the 1984 tour. I just did'nt think he knew Valerie during the hide your sheep tour. I am not familiar with him but there is a mention of Valerie Kendall in an interview by an English vocalist nemed Nadir d'Priest. Here is the part about Valerie Kendall.

She was in the middle of a nasty divorce from none other than Alex Van Halen....drummer of you know the band, Van Halen. I was banging this girl, we were steady so I thought. One summer day I woke up and found a little leak in my plumbing. I was very surprised by this, cause I was only doing Valerie. I confronted her and eventually after drilling her for a while, she did admit banging Izzy and that's were the origin of the leak came from. I called Tracii Guns at his mom's house and asked him if Izzy was there, he said yes! Izzy would sleep on his couch every so often. I went there, confronted him, asked him if he was banging Valerie, he denied it in my face. At that point, I was very upset since she had told me that he did bang her. Basically I think that I was mostly upset about the lovely gift he had transferred to the both of us. So! Without any notice, within a split second, I punched him in the face, once.... I wanted more, but! He did not want any part of it. He was scared and I don't blame him, I would have been to, if I did that to my bandmate. In those days, I was very volatile for some reason and I was notorious for my temper. I did not take shit from anyone. I warned him to stay away from her or else. I left Traci's house back to the rehearsal room as nothing happened I had a drink of vodka and smoked a joint. So that's it. So I guess I was part of the departure of Mr. Stradlin. By the way, I eventually found out that she was a heroin junky and was banging many guys, including Jeff Beck among some. In LONDON we explained the rules clearly to all and one of them was that WE! did not bang each other's girls. Whores, girlfriend's, slut's, groupies, any of them. Your meat was yours only, no sharing or proprietary control of all pussy. The reason was that this would avoid any conflict between the band and that way we would all have no conflicts over an important factor. Can you believe how our minds worked, the analogy. Funny stuff.

i saw one of the shows in philly..was amazing actually..

Ed was doing his solo and screwed up..yes, he made a mistake with the cast on..
so he stopped, right in the middle, walkewd up to the mic and put his finger up saying, "one sec., i'll try it again and get it right".
and then he did and it was fucking insane..the place went nuts and the chants started all over again!!
Was one of those magical CVH moments!

Yeah, I was at those Philly shows. I remember hearing that Eddie messed up his hand "scewing around" and that is pretty much all that was put out there about it at the time.

I remember the original story being about Eddie slipping and hitting wall, breaking right wrist. Later article (can't find which one) has Eddie admitting that he sometimes would punch a wall in frustration.

The Centrum in Worcester, MA had just opened in '82, and VH was going to be the first act to have multiple tour dates there. There was concern that the concerts would be cancelled, but Eddie played on, cast and all. Missed my chance to see VH with DLR for $20, $2.50 over the list price - but I had school the next day you know

Inside Magazine, issue 3, page 22, lower right side of page is picture of x-ray taken at __ East 30th Street (can't make out number), New York City, name on chalkboard above x-ray is Van Halen, Eddie, dated 10/15/82. Sorry, don't have a scanner.
