Default VH songs that weren't a hit that should have been

Just getting everyones opinion on what you guys think should have been hits..

I think Light up the Sky, Girl Gone Bad, and Cabo Wabo are some pretty nice songs that should have been big.

1.The ability to "trick out" your moms civic with high end parts from the automotive section in your local SUPERwal-mart. (watch out for those falling prices!)

2.Any low end "import" with a foldgers coffee can for a muffler...(the best part of waking up...is foldgers in your cup!)

3.Usually your average 4 cylinder, front wheel drive car with a park bench for a "spoiler"

Today it doesn't matter, as the radio only seems to recognise about 3-4 tunes per artist (regardless of the length of their career), anyway.

I think the singles were usually pretty well chosen, as those released tended to cater to the "pop" side of the band anyway.

One must define "hit". Bands like Zeppelin primarily had album tracks played on the radio, not singles (in fact Zeppelin detested singles, rarely issuing them).

Thanks to the invention of MTV, chances are that if a song was heard during VH's years of popularity, it was because it had a video. And because of that, videos became far more important than the actual songs being depicted. Since there are only 24 hours to a day, it was a limited vacuum. "Video Hits" shows only showed the Top Twenty, and rarely showed the entire video, at that.

VH were by far a more "commercial" rock band than say, Guns and Roses. Yet guess what? The only songs one hears on the radio from either band are the ones with (you guessed it)...videos.

    Hmmm....

I would think "Feel your love tonight", "So this is love?", "In a simple rhyme", "The Full Bug" and "Top Jimmy" should have gotten a lot more airplay...

You know, that song 'Jump' keeps getting overlooked all the time... but other than that:

Dave Era - Big Bad Bill - God I love this song....it's such a harsh left turn compared to previous VH material...that's what makes them great

Sammy - The Dream is Over - I'm speechless when I hear this song...the guitar...Sam's vocals are OFF THE HOOK!

Gary Era - I'm gonna get shit on for this one...How Many Say I....regardless of the singing quality of Ed....the words mean something to me..."Have you ever looked down when the homeless walked by or changed the channel when you saw a hungry child...How Many, How Many Say I..." I'm sorry but if those words don't evoke some kind of emotion in you...I don't know what to say...this song always makes me think....I TRUTHFULLY don't understand why so many people hate it....had Sammy sung it...everybody would have loved it...I don't get it.

Bingo, that list is right on.

Without a doubt Hear About It Later and Feel Your Love Tonight should be household names and in regular radio rotation. Every element that sums up the beauty of VH is in those songs. IMO, both are head and shoulders ahead of Running With The Devil.

As for Hagar era, the minute I heard Dream Is Over I thought for sure it would be the next Summer Nights, Dreams, etc., but it never happened.

VH with Dave ('78-'84) - The best years....the "real" VH.
VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.

I always kinda thought Feel Your Love Tonight was a kinda hit. If there are classic VH songs on the radio, it's that and Runnin' With The Devil.

Agreed with "Feel Your Love Tonight."

Though I did hear both on commercial radio once or twice in their respective eras, "Mine All Mine" and "The Seventh Seal" were both different but catchy enough to be big hits, IMHO.

"Right now" is the biggest mystrey ever.......for me.
It was a massive video hit on MTV but thats all, and if I remeber correctly it was used on an add or something for pepsi .

The truth is, it should of been a massive hit single worldwide in the vein of "Jump" and "Why cant this be love".

One of the greatest VH songs of all time.
What is understood need not be discussed

"Dont disturb my paradise. I've asked you once. I've asked you nice" - "SERIOUS JU JU"

"I am in a blissful state. Dont bug me!!!" - Richard Dreyfuss "The Goodbye girl" 1977
