    Default Question: Guitar in rehab?

Does anybody know if Ed would be allowed to play guitar in the rehabilitation center?

A knee jerk type reaction to this question might yield the big fat NO answer based on the relationship between the music in general and his substance abuse. It occurred to me though that if he conditioned himself to play music and noodle sober then he would be less likely to noodle and pound when he got out. Imagine him not being allowed to play, sobering up, and then getting out rusty as hell and having to pick it up in an entirely new way. Does anybody know how this works? I say let the guy play on an acoustic while he dries out. It could be the answer to eddie's main problem. Any thoughts?

If eddie were down and out on a sidewalk playing guitar I'd be next to him with a bottle and a blanky braving the cold. I would be sucking my thumb happily making chupa chupa noises in sync with the petroglyphic sounds that came from the mighty finger tips of Edward Van Halen.

If they let people smoke in rehab, then why the fuck not let them play the guitar?

hell if I know i'm not a drunken chain smoker. Smoking and drinking go hand in hand. I'm sure there are different types of rehab approaches. fuckin ciggys are gonna kill him faster than the bottle.

I remember Ed saying that it took him a while to get his head around playing sober on stage during the Balance tour and that it was a completely different experience than anything he had done before.
    yeah.......i'm still here.

Do you think they make Ed piss sitting down, since he's been drunk all his life and has traditionally stood to urinate?

my understanding is no, thus eliminating guitar strings, which could be used to do harm to one's self.

an ex girlfriend of mine, years ago, had some time in rehab. I know that the facility would determine what music could be brought in. She told me that she wasn't allowed to bring in "Flying High Again" by Ozzy, because of the meaning of the song. Other songs were also banned as well.
But Ed dones't really sing (nudge, nudge), and I would think they would want him to be productive. I guess if the guitar strings could be considered dangerous (as someone mentioned above), then could he play a paino, trumpet or harmonica? It would seem that an artist would be allowed to create, paint or whatever, as long as the music or output wasn't considered harmful or promoting drug or alcohol use.

So if a cancer survivor still smokes, what makes people think that rehab is going to clean his act up as far as the bottle is concerned? If cancer, and then beating cancer, isn't enough to make someone clean up their act, I don't see how rehab is going to do much.

I read once that Ed didn't play for a year after his Dad passed. That didn't seem to affect his playing later.

...I also read somewhere that Ed has 10 ALBUMS WORTH OF NEW MATERIAL locked inside 5150, but that hasn't seemed to affect his releasing it to the public, either.

How about "Take Your Whiskey Home"? Would that be allowed? Dave clearly states that if you do this, you will head for a lot trouble. Maybe they should play that constantly.
    Right here I say....
