Default Any good Van Halen books at all?

Well, I've read some sincerely good sounding things about Brad Starks' Van Halen Encyclopedia or whatever it was called. I remember a few people thought "Abel Sanchez" had some nice new info in his self published typo collector that came out a year or so ago...

Has anyone ever written a serious book about Van Halen?!

Not that I know of. That Abel Sanchez "book" was absolute shit! Him, his publisher, his editor and his parents should be ashamed.

Agreed. Do not purchase this. The only cool part about the book is the quotes from other musicians about Ed.

If you can get a hold of the excerts from Sammy book that was discontinued, it is quite an interesting read. Search for it on the links, its here somewhere. I wish that book was published.

That part was good. Probably because it wasn't written by the "author".

Too bad it's out of print. I just found a used copy on the web and am looking forward to reading it.

I always liked Van Halen! by J. D. Considine, it came out in early '85

I have a copy somewhere. It covers the band from the beginning right up to before the end of the Dave era. Alot of people don't like J.D.'s style and choices of who he writes about these days, but I thought htis was a good read.
A little more volume in the headphones please.

I gave mine away! Good point about the Dave book though, it's the only non-tabloid thing I've ever read on VH. The Starks one sounded good but I don't like things with "Encyclopedia" in the title usually, it's a gimmick!

Seriously though, someone like the guy who did Dylan or The Band should do one on Eddie. A real music writer.

That might be good. He was good when he wrote for Musician...I'll have to look at it.

    Juzza sec...

It was Matt Resnicoff that wrote the Musician article that resulted in Ed Leffler leaving a threat on his answering machine...they printed the damn thing in the letters to the editor section the next month. I think Matt could write a nasty book, but it might..y'know..get him killed.

Someone bought a review copy of that for a grand off ebay.

There were fake chapters to that which were obviously written by a disgruntled 'tard rolling around too. As far as I know the author only released a few chapters.

I talked to the guy after "the incident" and he's signed a non-disclosure agreement. Sammy Hagar is not his favourite person for pulling out on him, rest assured!

Thing is..it's a really great story! A movie like Dylan's No Direction Home would be AWESOME for Van Halen. Even non-fans would watch it if they did it right.
