    Default Wolfie's Blues

I've always been impressed with the neck pu of the Wolf, it can cry out some decent blues. No, I don't think it is up there with most Gibsons, and I don't expect to see BB playing one anytime soon, but that pu can sing the low down pretty decent. Just goes to show EVH knows the "Cream" of the crop.
    Any thoughts??

just goes to show that its not the gear that makes the sound, but the player.

I love the neck pickup on the Wolfgang. I've heard some complain it's too "muddy," but when clean it's my #1 go-to setting.

Also, I was playing a Yamaha AES620 (like Sammy's guitar) for a good part of yesterday. It has a SD JB in the bridge and a "custom" pickup in the neck, and the neck pickup was WAY damn muddier than the Wolfie.

I have the Sammy Hagar Cabo Wabo and actually changed the pickups to the GFS '59's in both the neck and bridge. Huge difference. The neck p/u is sweet.
One noticeable difference between Judas Priest and Metallica...
...Judas Priest only has one gay guy in the band.

I love the neck p'up for that Clapton-type lead sound...

What's even kewler is that all the p'ups in my three Wolfies are coil-tapped so I can get semi-strat tones from them as well.

I can get a KILLER fat, clean tone setting the bridge p'up to single and the bridge to hum and the three-way set in the middle.

Add a just a touch of TC Electronics Chorus and a dash of compression-sustainer and you're in funk guitar heaven...

its a very versatile guitar indeed.

sixstring ... i was told the stock pickups couldn't be tapped by someone so i guess they were wrong eh?

*hmm* i should take it to another guitar repair place and check that out, i'd love to have tapped coils on there.

Hey sixstring! I remember that you had a guy in Texas that did your coil tap and we talked about it a few years ago. I haven't been around too much lately, but I think I lost the information that you gave me. Would you be willing to pass it along again if you still have it?

I think I am going to replace my neck pick-up too. As AndrewT mentioned above, I am one of those people that thinks the neck is way too muddy. I like a brighter punchier, strat/tele neck pick up sound.

Oh, it's certifiably possible - here's two of mine (note the mini toggles for each p'up):

LOL! Man, I've slept since then! LOL! I'm not exactly sure WHAT info I DID give you - you might have to refresh my memory...

I've tapped the pickups in a couple of my Wolfs, and it's easy to do. And they don't sound all that bad as some folks say.

andrew, you seem to do a lot of your own guitar mods, i think thats superb! i'd love to be able to repaint, resand, reconfig them. no time to learn tho.

six string, i love the fact your black one looks bloody abused ... just the way guits are meant to be!

nothin wrong with collecting, i just like em dinged up.

Just a few years ago I could barely tell you what woods my guitars were made of. Attempting a mod on one of my guitars made me curious about other stuff, and it just grew from there. I'm by no means good at mods yet (and definitely not efficient), just patient and careful when doing so. I will say, though... routing for and applying binding to the Wolfgang Special body a week ago made me pause when I was done and go: "Wow! Look at what the hell I did!"
