    Default Ol' George Thorogood

I wonder what happened to ol' George? Just recently heard "One Bourbon, One Scotch and One Beer", "I Drink Alone", and "Who do you Love" all in the same week.
I remember thinking, wouldn't Van Halen do a kickass version of "Who do you Love"?

Ol' George was one badass motha.

Who can remember the names of all his drinkin' buddies in "I Drink Alone"?
Off the top of my head, "my good buddy, Weiser".

One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer--John Lee Hooker

One bourbon, one scotch, and one beer
One bourbon, one scotch, and one beer
    Hey mister bartender come here
I want another drink and I want it now

My baby she gone, she been gone two night
I ain't seen my baby since night before last
One bourbon, one scotch, and one beer

And then I sit there, gettin' high, mellow
Knocked out, feeling good and by the time
I looked on the wall at the old clock on the wall
By that time, it was ten thirty daddy

I looked down the bar, at the bartender
He said, "Now what do you want Johnny?"

One bourbon, one scotch, and one beer

Well my baby she gone, she been gone two night
I ain't seen my baby since night before last
I wanna get drunk till I'm off of my mind
One bourbon, one scotch, and one beer

And I sat there, gettin' high, stoned
Knocked out, and by the time
I looked on the wall, at the old clock again
And by that time, it was a quarter to two

Last call for alcohol, I said,
Hey mister bartender, what do you want?"

One bourbon, one scotch, and one beer
One bourbon, one scotch, and one beer
One bourbon, one scotch, and one beer

Great video! It's hard to tell how old it is. George is pretty beefy - he could probably take on Chuck, no problem - LOL.

I forgot about "Movin' on Over", and "Bad to the Bone", especially - great tunes by the mighty George.

The line is, "Johnnie Walker, and his brothers Blackie and Red." (ok, ok, I peeked.)

Damn, I knew someone would catch that!

So Hank Sr wrote that, and John Lee Hooker was the original for One Bourbon, etc.? Didn't ol' George write anything on his own?

Anyway, Loons, I figured you'd be a fan of George...

just realized all the drinkin' buddies have been named, so here is the whole thing:

    I drink alone, yeah
    With nobody else
    I drink alone, yeah
    With nobody else
You know when I drink alone
I prefer to be by myself

    Every morning just before breakfast
I don't want no coffee or tea
Just me and good Buddy Wiser
    That's all I ever need

    Because I drink alone, yeah
    With nobody else
yeah, you know when I drink alone
I prefer to be by myself

The other night I laid sleeping
And I woke from a terrible dream
So I called up my pal Jack Daniels
    And his partner Jimmy Beam

    And we drank alone, yeah
    With nobody else
Yeah, you know when I drink alone
I prefer to be by myself

The other day I got invited to a party
    But I stayed home instead
Just me and my pal Johnny Walker
And his brothers Blackie and Red

    And we drank alone, yeah
    With nobody else
Yeah, you know when I drink alone
I prefer to be by myself

My whole family done give up on me
And it makes me feel oh so bad
The only one who'll hang out with me
    Is my dear Old Granddad

    And we drink alone, yeah
    With nobody else
Yeah, you know when I drink alone
I prefer to be by myself

George is 56, and has continued to tour with The Destoyers all this time. They have a new album that came out in 2006, called The Hard Stuff.
At least that's what I got from my little AOL music research. Loons, I'm sure you'll correct me if needed.

Amos Milburn wrote the tune...but John Lee Hooker made it his own and probably or sadly has the 2nd most famous version of it nah nah yezz......John Lee Hooker probably credited himself as the writer, though...he was infamous for that...he even recorded "I Need Some Money"...which was "Money"...the best thing's in life are free....did his own bluesy stye on the number and claimed authorship...

All Ize got well Ize had to steal-ah:

"I used to play the blues alone in all the local joints," he explained. 'The only thing that I can really play on guitar to this day is the blues. I heard Doc Watson and his son playing 15 years ago, and from there I got into Leadbelly and John Lee Hooker."--DLR

If I had one biscuit, and sam hagar hadn't eaten nothin' in a month, I'd break it in two and eat both pieces.--Loons, celebrating Van Halen with David Lee Roth ONLY !!!
