connery i think is synonymous with the role... honestly, i would've thought that they would've recruited ewan mcgregor for the latest incarnation, given how successful he's been across different genres... to be honest, i haven't seen the latest bond film (at the time when it was in theaters, my one opportunity to go see something was a choice between that and borat, and, um, borat won! very niiiice! )

Connery was the best but I grew up with Roger Moore and actually liked him in the role until the end when he got too old.

wow....tough question. Im a fan of Peirce Brosnan as 007 but I also thought that Daniel Craig did an awesome job too. I thought as well that Ewan McGregor would have made an awesome 007

I just happen to have turned the TV on a moment ago, and "A View To A Kill" was on!
Connery was the staple, set the precedent, and was in the movies made from the original novels. I was okay with Roger Moore, and I liked "Goldeneye." The Brosnan Bond films were becoming a little too campy, cute, and a parody of the character, though. "Casino Royale" was awesome, as was Daniel Craig. If they can keep the darker character study thing going on, they should be excellent again.

Here's my favorite Bond:
Okay, all kidding aside, Sean Connery is my favorite Bond but it seems that Daniel Craig is getting much respect. I'm going to have to see "Casino Royale" as soon as I get a chance to relax ala once we get moved into the new house."Viking - last to sleep, first to rise, last to leave, that's how the Nords of old rocked the house." ~ timmac in the 'Texas Linkers' thread talking about yours truly. :-)

Connery's era for me was a little too smirky even though he was good, and like others here I grew up on Moore, but it hasn't aged well.
I loved "Goldeneye", probably my fave Bond movie but that was Brosnan's only really good movie.
I voted for Craig on the strength of the trailers alone. He has the right mix of menace and charm for the role. He moves like he could handle himself and as an actor he beats the others all hands down, with the exception maybe of later Connery films (not Bond).
Anybody who doubts his acting ablilites should check out "Layer Cake". One of the best Brit-gangster films ever made.

CONNERY..hands down...no debate on my part...he was brutal...he could stab someone in the back and then order a drink like nothing happened.
However we cannot give all the credit to Connery for his portrail as Bond. It was mostly Terrence Young, the director of Dr. No who created the character's image and the way Connery moved and talked.
Plus some of the lines Connery said as Bond are HYSTERICAL!
Waitress: Can I do anything for you?....
Bond: .....Just a drink....
Honey Rider (Ursella Andress, in a very nice bikini on the beach): Are you looking for shells?
Bond: No...just looking
That being said...Craig is the only actor to play Bond who has gotten close to Connery's style.
I personally love Daniel Craig's performance. I put him an Connery on the same level however...Connery has to be a inch above him because...well...he is a legend. My man, when you are fantasizing, don't go for attainable, you can get attainable at the local Applebee's. - Dave's Dreidel

LOS ANGELES - Best known for playing James Bond on the big screen, Roger Moore now has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in front of an address that includes the spy's signature 007.
Moore, 69, received his permanent spot on Hollywood Boulevard on Thursday, accompanied by friends and family.
Moore made seven Bond films, starting with "Live and Let Die" in 1973 and ending 12 years later with "A View to a Kill." The British actor paid homage to the number of women he kissed on-screen while adapting Ian Fleming's leading man.
"Sadly, I had to retire from the Bond films," Moore said. "The girls were getting younger or I was just getting too old."
Moore has done some acting since leaving the Bond franchise. He has raised funds for UNICEF in underdeveloped countries and received a Commander of the British Empire award from the British government in 1999. He also was awarded a knighthood in 2003 for his work with UNICEF.
Moore's star sits in front of 7007 Hollywood Blvd., an ice cream parlor that claims to be the birthplace of the hot fudge sundae.
Pierce Bronsan is the only other actor who played Bond on the big screen to receive a star on the Walk of Fame."Watch what people are cynical about, and one can often discover what they lack.” -- Gen. George S. Patton

Good for him. Yet in truth, Moore never was Bond. He merely reprised his role from "The Saint".
I was truly surprised how Brosnan portrayed Bond to be so bizarrely dour and dull. At one point in his career I'd have thought him perfect, yet he always looked like he had a raging hangover or was in dire need of depression medication.
The less said about Lazenby, the better. Dalton actually had some of the better latter day story lines, yet one couldn't get beyond the "fashion model" looks of the guy.
Have not bothered with Daniel Craig's film yet, so the jury is out.
Yet in truth (and being an "old-school" kinda guy) there can be but one original. The original is usually the standard by which all others are judged. And of course that fellow is Connery...

It was close between Craig and Brosnan for me, but I chose Brosnan. I might change my opinion later once Craig has had a few Bond films under his belt b/c he kicked ass in Casino Royale. If you haven't seen it, spend the few $$$ and rent it b/c it's a good flick IMO...
