Hi there,
I fly out to Australia - Melbourne tomorrow.
Just thought I'd take the chance to ask if there are any Van Halen related places to see down in Oz ?
Ya know, an Eddie guitar in some place, or some other Van Halen related place to see ?
I'm not holding out much hope, but just thought I'd ask before I jet out.
Cheers,

Boy, are you in luck I saw this! I've been to Oz quite a few times in the past, and Melbourne is one of my favorite spots there.
Go to the HRC and as soon as you walk into the dining area, look above you on the archway. If it's still there, you'll see a VH "shrine" of sorts from the "3" tour. A signed bass drum head, and a few other things, if I remember correctly.
There are also a few independant record stores that carry the odd "live imports", one of which is where I found the vinyl version of "Latin Collection" (http://www.vhboots.com/latinconnection.html), and the Australian version of "L:RHRN", complete with a backstage laminate. Look around hard, and you'll find something. I've managed to find something VH related in every city of Australia that I visited from '96-'01.
Other than that, take in the sights, man. Melbourne has some of the most spectacular architecture I have ever seen in any city or country, especially Australia. The people are friendly as hell, food is great, the women are exotic and H-O-T, and the weather kicks serious ass. Take some rain gear, though. It's their winter season, and this is about the same time of year I was there once, and it rained a few times.
Have a great time!
Almost forgot! Ed and Val dined at a Mexican food restaurant while there on the "3" tour, and I was able to find it while I was there. I wish I could remember the name, but the food was incredible, one of the very few places I've been able to actually enjoy good Mexican food while cruising overseas.

Cheers for the response Vince. But are you sure it's there Winter ? It's 30+ degrees over there at the moment. It's been so hot recently that they've been having bush fires. And you're telling me to take rain clothes ?
Just confused as the people that I am going over to see have been there for 27 years. They said we'd get a few rainy days, but that it's so hot that it just dries up instantly.
Plus, they said that their winter is around our summer. i.e. June-July time.
Wel,, now that the confusion is out of the way... I'll definitely try out the places you said. Jen's gonna do her nut when she realises I'm looking for a Van Halen stor rather than the sights - heh heh heh ! But sod it, she wants to find Ramsey Street, so she can look for that whilst I go in search of Eddie-isms...

Hey Mondola, is it just Melbourne you're visiting?
If you visit the Gold Coast in Queensland there's a Hard Rock Cafe with some VH stuff like plaques etc. I can't remember if they have a guitar there or not. There's a Hard Rock Cafe in Sydney too.
Plus if you do get to Sydney check out Utopia Records, they often have some cool Van Halen collectables...

In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both – that’s intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion.” - David Lee Roth

Just Melbourne. Trip will be taken up by the wedding mostly, and don't have the time or the budget to get out to Sydney.
I will check out the Gold Coast though, if I can, as well as the HRC.
Keep 'em coming, it's all good !

Probably best I'm not making it out to Sydney then.
Jen would have my "collectables" in a pickle jar if I bought some of this stuff !

Yeah, Utopia Records rocks! I don't even want to think how much $$$ I dropped there during my last visit to Sydney. Hoo-boy! It was definitely a fortune and a-half! Got into a small pissing match (yeah, me...imagine that!) with some bald idiot-fuck at the store around '99 who kept ragging on Gary Cherone, over and over.
As for the weax thing, I remember being there around this time (or maybe it was a few months down the road) a few years ago and it rained, and it was very cool and breezy at night. The people I met there told me it was their "winter", that's why I mentioned it. I just remember one day in particular that it fucking POURED rain, and I was really unprepared for that. I walked into a movie theater with the sun in full bloom, and walked out 2 hours later into some serious downpour. There I am standing in shorts, t-shirt, and sneakers with my bags and there's rain everywhere! Got to see some dude (or bloke) fall flat on his arse into this pool of water while trying to cross the street. Kinda made up for being caught in the unexpected rain storm."Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that."
