This is partly tongue in cheek, partly not.
There's been sporadic remarks throughout the board for a while now about threads getting pretty damned difficult to follow once peeps start quoting each other to respond.
Used to be with the older versions of the UBB software that when you quoted a post, all you included was the post you were responding to only. The latest versions will quote everything within the post that you refer to, as if ya hadn't noticed.
Not only do some quotes get damned long, but the course of discussion gets a little muddled. Someone thinks they were being referred to when, in fact it was someone else entirely. Still follow me?
Although this irks me personally, I'm not making this post for my own benefit. It's been brought to our attention as Mods many times by board members who want to know why so and so gets away with talking to them a certain way, when in fact, they weren't talkin' smack about 'em to BEGIN with. Or they simply say what I already said they said before I told you that they said it the way they said it. Know what I'm sayin'?
So what you end up with a lot of times is something like this -

I'm not sure that everyone is aware that when you quote someone you can edit out content of the post you are quoting. It makes it a hell of a lot clearer just what you are responding to (or in some cases, flaming at).
No one's saying that anyone has to do this, but it makes things flow a lot better, and you know how smooth we like to keep things running around here.bsessednolifefreaks: If everybody would give it a stab, a lot of peeps would surely appreciate it, which in turn would make us Mods happier people to deal with.
Anyhoo, as far as editing goes, I'm gonna ask Top to help me illustrate this -

Now don't anybody get offended or paranoid by this thread - it's all for the sake of keeping the board running smoothly.
And if you flame me for it - I'll put you on a list of peeps of whom I will quote and reword their posts relentlessly.

I am the master of quoting.
CHICAGO WHITE SOX - 2005 WORLD CHAMPIONS
The Chicago White Sox (1901-present) - The Original SOX - Proof
The Boston Americans (1901)
The Boston Somersets (1902)
The Boston Pilgrims (1903-1906)
The Boston Red Sox (1907-present) - Proof
The Pilgrims/Americans/Somersets whatever you want to call them, have NEVER displayed "SOX" anywhere on their caps, jerseys, or merchandise, therefore they shouldn't be referred to as such. However, the White Sox have used "SOX" since 1912.
The SOX are in Chicago...we just allow the Pilgrims/Americans/Somersets to use the name.

The 'quoting' has gotten very ugly lately. Personally I think the whole feature should be disabled and we should have to do our quoting manually.

It's really very easy to do!!
It can be done in mere seconds!
Of course, that's just my opinion. (Un) Bold as it may be!!

Well, I have figured out how to edit and delete unwanted parts of quotes, but I haven't figured out the manual commands. I know some who will quote a part, add text, and quote again, addressing things point by point. Also, quoting from multiple posts. I'm assuming some form of cut and paste, which my crappy compuserve browser won't let me do, but I'm not sure. Anyone want to go a step further and type out a real Quoting 101?

I don't know what the answer is, though, if you can't cut and paste the specific pieces of dialogue you want to quote.
Your best bet is probably to just take a couple pieces of dialogue and fuck around with it to figure it out manually. Like...

pieces of dialogue and fuck around with it

I'll be damned. Thanks, Glenn, I think I got it. The /qb /quote in the [] ends a quote, then qb and quote begins it again and you can type in between. Lotta work though.
