Default Billboard quotes from Sammy and Mikey after the RRHOF

Saw this on blabbermouth - from a Billboard article.

Backstage, Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony said there were no hard feelings they were not included on Van Halen's planned summer tour with David Lee Roth, which is now in shambles. "I totally encourage the thing with Dave," Hagar said. "If Van Halen has any move they should do for the fans right now, it's to do a reunion with Dave." Added Anthony of the absent Roth, "I was waiting for him to come busting through at some point during the speech."

"If we all grew up, including me, maybe all of us could do it together," Hagar said of future Van Halen touring. "I'm down with that." He added, "I planned on taking this year off and just hanging with my family. I haven't done that for a long time. [But] I will tour from my birthday in October through next year."

Velvet Revolver performed in place of Van Halen and without Roth. Frontman Scott Weiland explained the ensuing controversy: "We were asked to perform. Kinda what happened was, he wanted to sing the song 'Jump.' We felt from an artistic standpoint, and I'm being totally honest with you, that it wasn't a song we felt comfortable with. We don't have keyboards. To bring a keyboard on stage wouldn't work for us. We said we'd do "Jamie's Cryin'" or "You Really Got Me," and he was adamant that wasn't okay

Wow, DLR wanted to sing something dynamic and driving like Jump. Now if that is not a pop song , I don't know what is.
I would have preffered Jaime's Crying or You Really Got Me, their first "hit" which was cover.

What a punk. Attention Scott Weiland: You're SCOTT WEILAND. You're inducting VH---a GREAT honor--and one your band doesn't deserve to be doing. And doing their most famous song wouldn't work for you...because of a keyboard? So instead of Jump with DLR we get YOU butchering another VH classic. Now besides having the worst band name in rock--another reason to dislike VR.

Yeah great, throw rocks at VR, not at the folks who are responsible for this mess - Eddie, Alex and David.

Hey mom, it is not my fault that I drove the car drunk and wrecked it, it was the bottle of booze I bought a the store. Blame the bottle!

He'll play it alright, 'his way'. It's not the first time he's playing EVH solo in public. Back in Michael Jackson's anniversary performance that happened a few years ago (with N'Sync, Jackson 5, etc), Slash played the Beat It solo. It sounded exactly not like the original.

Yeah, Scott Weiland is Scott Weiland. And Scott Weiland is in a functioning band that tours. Unlike Van Halen. And they have every right to refuse a song on the basis that one of the instruments required for the song isn't in the band. Considering they have two guitarists, it'd be pointless to have them both play so one would likely sit out and considering the fact that they just learned the other songs....it's a little unfair to make them learn a new one just because Dave won't pony up and sing with another band. So what if Velvet Revovler fucked up the two songs they did. They don't have to worry because they'll probably never play them again. On the other hand, the fans will soon not forget the fact that the only two members of the band to show up are the two not currently in it. I understand Ed, but Alex, Dave, even Wolfgang, did not show up. Speaks volumes about the band. I mean really, why is it so hard for Al to say "On behalf of my brother, who couldn't be here, I would like to accept this award." BAM done. It's not like Al's sitting there in rehab with him. And if he is....I'm sure his yes man attitude isn't helping.

The fact that anyone could defend VR in any way speaks volumes at the Sammy/Mike dicksucking that goes on at this site. VR has ZERO cred compared to VH, in the overall grande scheme. Based upon their "performance" last night, i'd hardly call them functional. I have nothing against Mike, cant say that same about Sammy overall, but i do like his contributions. Having said that, i am tired of hearing about how "classy" they were for being there. Ed's in rehab...finally....so he's supposed to just skip out & show up to accept an award? Dave's reasons for not being there, if we are to believe what we've read (which i tend to), are valid reasons. I wouldnt share the stage with that band of hacks called VR, either, nor would i sit and watch them play my own songs.....not on VH's night.....and after seeing how they played, i'm very much in tune with Roth's decision. As for Alex, i'm not sure why he wasnt there. And for whoever mentioned Wolfie....if he would have showed up there would be legions of you bitching about how "he doesnt deserve to be there"...."he didnt contribute to VH's reasons for being inducted"...blah-blah-blah. Sammy and Mike sounded rather awful last night, playing one of my least favorite Hagar-Era tunes...to me it just made the whole thing worse. Very special performance my ass. I will say that Sammy's comments after the show were among the FEW times he's said something that wasnt a jab at someone with an obvious drinking issue. But for me, he can keep the whole Sammy/Dave with VH tour....i'm quite happy with the still very possible Dave,Eddie,Alex, Wolfie future tour. I'd take that....with a sober Eddie....any day over the other options.
    SIMPLY SAID....GOD IS ED!!!!

Of course he was adamant. The evening was not about Velvet Revolver's "artistic standpoint". It was about the induction of Van Halen. And Dave should have been given the respect he has earned and you dumb fucks should have bowed down and played whatever Dave wanted. You douchebags would have been lucky to grace the same stage as DLR but you had to act like the spoiled pricks you are.

I can understand that VR didn't feel comfortable doing "Jump" but they did sign up to do this. They could've easily grabbed Paul Schafer and his keyboard (which was used right after VR's performance) and done it.

but then Shaffer would have had to rehearse Jump with VR. Dave fronting the house band would have been a better idea.

VR had no business inducting VH anyway. Henry Rollins should have given the speech, he is a very articulate and passionate about classic VH. Mike and Sam could have performed with the Paul Schaffer band. I think their performance was a spur of the moment thing just so the VH portion didn't end with that horrific version of Runaround. If Dave showed up he could have done Jump with Schaffer kind of like what he did at the Boston Pops. It wouldn't have been great, but it would have been a million times better than what VR did. Why does it always suck being a Van Halen fan?
