Default Why Dave didn’t show up last night

Plain and simple. Dave dose not want to share the spot light with Sammy. Last night was Dave’s chance to show us how great his voice is and how good it could be on the next tour. Don’t give me this shit that the HOF didn’t let him play. Bullshit! He was scared of everyone comparing his voice with Sam’s. You know that it’s true.

I'd say that is pretty acurate. VH totally blew it, almost as bad as VR did.

I dont think VH blew anything.. I think Ed is doing exactly what he needs to do.. Roth on the other hand should have shown up.. VR pretty much confirmed that Roth wanted to do JUMP and wouldnt do anything else.. Your probably right about the Roth/Hagar thing as well..

But Jeez VR... That was fucking terrible.. Slash has proven once and for all that he will never be in the same league as EVH.

BIngo. Dave dosn't like being compared to or sharing the spotlight with Sammy at all. He knows he got a run for his money on the Sam and Dave tour and now is avoiding him. Thats why when Sammy said the best thing VH could eventually do is something whith all five of them I laughed. That would be the ultimate Hell freezes over tour.

Puhleeze. Sammy looked so out of place on that stage. I think most of the audience didn't even know who he was. The final jam had him on the outside looking in, so I don't beleive that Roth feared what he already knew.

Roth didn't want to bastardize the band. Honestly -- with no Ed there is no Van Halen and Roth knew the event would turn out exactly as it did. He even said, he couldn't bear to sit there and watch VR do his music, and he was RIGHT!

Apologies if this was posted elsewhere, but I just got an e-mail from Billboard with a link to this story:

    http://billboard.com/bbcom/news/arti..._id=1003557315

Backstage, Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony said there were no hard feelings they were not included on Van Halen's planned summer tour with David Lee Roth, which is now in shambles. "I totally encourage the thing with Dave," Hagar said. "If Van Halen has any move they should do for the fans right now, it's to do a reunion with Dave." Added Anthony of the absent Roth, "I was waiting for him to come busting through at some point during the speech."

"If we all grew up, including me, maybe all of us could do it together," Hagar said of future Van Halen touring. "I'm down with that." He added, "I planned on taking this year off and just hanging with my family. I haven't done that for a long time. [But] I will tour from my birthday in October through next year."

Velvet Revolver performed in place of Van Halen and without Roth. Frontman Scott Weiland explained the ensuing controversy: "We were asked to perform. Kinda what happened was, he wanted to sing the song 'Jump.' We felt from an artistic standpoint, and I'm being totally honest with you, that it wasn't a song we felt comfortable with. We don't have keyboards. To bring a keyboard on stage wouldn't work for us. We said we'd do "Jamie's Cryin'" or "You Really Got Me," and he was adamant that wasn't okay."

Last night wasn't about VR... there was NO artistic point for them to make. NOW do you see Dave's point in all of this? Who is VR to dictate how a tribute to VH is done, particularly when the singer you're paying tribute is wanting to sing his SIGNATURE song!?

Sammy was fine once he got warmed up... this wasn't a Dave vs. Sammy thing (that's sooooo 1990s!)... c'mon, those two got along well enough to tour together... do you REALLY think there's huge barriers between the two of them? Money talks for both of them (as it would for me and for anyone else).

The Hall and VR tried to dictate to DLR what he could and couldn't sing at a part of the ceremony meant to honor him and his bandmates... they try to "offer" him the "choice" of doing a cover that, for sure, got VH's foot in the door, but is NOT a VH tune!! "Jump" was the pinnacle of DLR's history in VH, so it would've been more than appropriate for him to do that song. The Hall claims they offered him to do that song with the house band... well, we saw how good WCTBL sounded, especially with that horn section... ! Anyone can realize how cheesy a song with the house band was going to sound... no one realized how much VR would butcher two easy VH tunes!

Sammy was front and center with Stipe and Vedder during the jam? Those three carried most of the song!

I think the mainstream public is probably more familiar with Sammy's ballads and pop tunes with VH than they are with pre-1984 tunes (it doesn't make that right), so I think more than a few people knew who that redhead on the stage was last night.

It was Mike who was out of place during the jam, playing tambourine way in the background...

Dave could have and should have been there, period. It's funny that they played ATBL, which is a sig. VH song, and not YRGM, couldn't Dave sing that one? I took from the VR quote that it was more about keyboards than saying "we're playing this one song and that's it". I think Dave probably had a choice of some non keyboard songs, but was just being an ass. I really wish he'd have been there. At the very least, he could've played a song with the house band. Oh well. The Other Half once again carried the torch.

Mike WAS on stage for the jam?! I was looking for him and figured he just stayed out of it!

Sam sounded great on the big jam--actually way better than WCTBL. That was one very cool thing about last night, that lead vocals were passed from one person to the next, from one genre/era to the next. (Michael Stipe, Sammy Hagar, Patti Smith, and Eddie Vedder?! That's so weird it was cool!)

The two events that are now mos famous with the RnR Hall are:
    1. The Sex pistols snubbing them
    2. DLR snubbing them
Any press is good press, that's all the papers and media were talking about that was the focus, no one from VH showed up.

Ok, I'll buy that, but the house band that played with Sam and Mike could have (and probably WOULD have played Jump) They are Letterman's band, I've heard them play Jump on the show going in and out of commericials a bunch of times. I bet they wouldn't have had to rehearse it that much.

Plain and simple Dave either didn't want to sing at all or the brothers told him not to go.
