Default So why do you think Dave didn't attend?

It is obvious to me at least that Dave could have attended and performed. His excuse of not being allowed to perform on his terms is not a good one. So what do you think is the real reason for his absence?

    1. He didn't want to share the spotlight with Sam? We all know how Dave feels about him. Perhaps he doesn't think Sam deserves to be included?

    2. Would have felt awkward doing it without Al and Ed?

    3. He thought the ceremony was a joke and wasn't happy with VR being the ones to do the induction (and they did do an absolutely brutal job-it was disgusting what they did).

    4. A show of support for Eddie and Alex? Mike and Sam aren't in the band anymore, maybe Dave didn't want to be seen as going against the brothers?

    5. If he couldn't perform with VH, then he wasn't interested in the event at all. It would have sucked seeing him perform with VR and performing with his own band would have been weird.

    6. All of the above?

What do you guys thinks? I'm sort of glad he didn't attend, because it was a complete joke for VH and all the fans. I think I'd feel worse today if he was there to witness that shit, and Eddie is in rehab so I'm happy for him. It would have been great to see CVH perform and bring the house down, but if Eddie can get straight and CVH hits the road some time in the future and releases new music, then last night won't be a sore point with me at all. If this is the end of the road for VH, then it's a pretty shitty way to go out.

    None of the above.

It's not right to sing Van HALEN songs without Van HALEN at that event. Also, I believe the "solidarity" theory - that Dave and Alex chose to skip the event because Eddie couldn't be there.

Though I still say they should have done a satellite linkup from LA and given short speeches accepting the awards.

Exactly. After watching Mike and Sam act with dignity with respect to the legacy of VH, Dave could have made a quick statement at the podium then left if he didn't want to participate in the music tribute. Ed and Al could have video taped a quick thank you before Ed went into rehab. It's not like they didn't know the date for the induction. I'm truly disappointed as a fan and at this point, have no idea what these guys are thinking.

Yeah, that about sums up my thoughts. It was very cool to hear Mike give love to Ed at the podium, but I was surprised that Sam didn't, or did I miss that? Roth should be totally ashamed, and I bet he regrets it today and for the rest of his days...

Ditto. Great post. IF as Ed says it's all about the fans, then altho he may have had no control over this situation due to his current situation, I still think both Al and Dave coulda handled it with just a little bit of forethought. (that's fore-THOUGHT, not fore-SKIN. ) Al I can actually see wanting to stay behind for Ed, but only to a point, I still think he coulda been there or as others have stated, run either a pre-tape or live feed. Dave lives in Manhattan, so he shoulda been there regardless.

No shit, this band can honestly fuck up a wet dream, sad.

Sam said something like "Ed's getting help so we can have our old buddy back."
Sammy did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.

Sam gave plenty of props to Ed on more than one occassion. Sam played the entire night perfectly.....a solid guy that understands his place in the VH legacy. I was real impressed with how he and Mike handled the whole night.

VH with Dave ('78-'84) - The best years....the "real" VH.
VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.

I wish they had an Egotistics Anonymous organization so that way Dave would have somewhere to get help as well.

He was supposed to be there to represent the band and the fans but, once again, it had to be all about him.

    He should have been there....period.

I don't really care for the reason, but how cool would it have been to have Dave, Eddie, Alex, Sammy, and Michael on stage with Keith Richards? I couldn't help but think of that.
