Default USA Today RRHOF article VH mention

Quote from in the USA Today RRHOF article.

"Eddie Van Halen taught a million people to overplay, and David Lee Roth ushered in the era of the comedian as rock 'n' roll front man," he says. "With Van Halen, we're to the point of bands getting in pretty much only because they sold a lot of records. "Why is commercial stadium rock getting the nod when entire genres get passed over, particularly progressive rock, '60s Top 40, New Orleans funk and a whole lot of black music? It's getting too tweaked toward those classic rock playlists that froze the world in 1977."

Van Halen "seems like a reasonable choice," Blender editor Craig Marks counters. "Those sleazy, exciting rock records sound pretty darn good these days. Sleaze isn't the most dignified emotion, and it doesn't age well, as any recent pictures of Eddie and David will confirm. But the records are dynamic, loud and just fun."

Some people just don't get it and likely never will either.
'Old Van Halen, when I was in it-classic Van Halen-makes you wanna drink, dance and screw, right? And the new Van Halen encourages you to drink milk, drive a Nissan and have a relationship.' - David Lee Roth.

Whomever wrote that is someone else guilty of forgetting that it is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Not the Rap Hall, Funk Hall, or Jazz Hall.

Plus, he/she probably just doesn't get what innovators Van Halen was. They are getting just because they sold a lot of records?

look how many Eddie has influenced in a positive way playing guitar. He is the most ripped off guitarist in history, and for that alone deserves merit to be a hall of famer. I am happy for all 3 versions of Van Halen and congrats are do for the MIGHTY VAN HALEN.

This is the ROCK N ROLL Hall of Fame, not the Peabody Institute Hall of Fame. It's not just about music, how difficult it is; how progressive it is or isn't, etc.

It's also about the attitude a band brings and the impact the band had on the American population in general. Unfortunately, it's also about commercial appeal as well, but not the only indicator.

    VH hit all these.
Some critics just don't get it.

The enitre arguement within that article is uneducated and ludicrous.
"Question is, not does love exist, but when she leaves, where she goes. I got a feeling she don't know either. Wait like the wind, watch where she blows..."

Critics never did "get" Van Halen back when everyone was imitating both Dave and Edward. Why should that change now?

if it was about record sales, there would be a whole mess of other bands that would be in there that are not (priest, kiss, etc.)... and the reason it's tainted towards classic rock right about now is b/c of the 25 year rule (you are eligible 25 yrs after your first record)... as others have said, it's the ROCK and roll HOF, not the biz markie hof...

    What a dickhead!!!

How many guitarists changed the face of guitar-playing? Not many and they are all legends and hall-of-famers. Eddie and Van Halen are deserving.
