To all those who own Jeeps
I need some help...
I have a 1990 Jeep Cherokee Laredo and I love it! It runs awesome and has a kick ass 4W Drive. Theres only 1 problem with it....its a fucking gas hog!
Ive had it since June/July of 06 and ever since I have had it, Ive always wondered what the Power/Comfort Transmission switch does. Ive just figured that the power setting was for towing and off-roading and the comfort was for around town driving but ive never used the button once just because im not 100% on what it does. But since my jeep is such a gas hog and with gas now bein at $2.40 a gallon, im tryin to figure out if I can save on gas with just a simple flick of a switch.
Ive never taken it off roading but I did try out the 4W drive this winter on some snow and ice in a large parking lot (that was hella fun)
So for any of you who own jeeps, any help would be nice right about nowFacebook http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=504401115

I don't own a jeep but I know a thing or two about automotive stuff. Typically that sort of switch is pretty much what you suspect. I would imagine that it's normal position (comfort I'd guess) is the better gas mileage one just simply because of gov't regulations on fuel economy. The power side of the switch "probably" raises shift points into higher RPM ranges where more torque & HP are available for towing & such. It may even lock out the overdrive which will totally destroy any economy you're getting now. If you want to raise MPG you have to lower RPM's & loading on the engine. Underdrive pulleys & replacing the engine driven cooling fan w/ an electric fan will improve it some but there ain't no magic bullet. Oh yeah, fun as they are, oversize tires DEFINITELY would be a no-no. As would Ring & pinion changes in the wrong direction(numerically higher).

gas sucks
I have a jeep. gas milage sucks. i get 10 miles city/12 miles highway.
jeeps are known for itDAVE vs SAMMY
People need to let this go.....it is like comparing an ex wife to your current wife...you can say how things would have be different if she were still here but she left you, so you moved on with your life.....
Same with Van Halen...would they have liked to have Roth stay, yes...but he decided to leave so they moved on.......
and the rest is history….. well until 1996……..lol

idk why you are trying to save gas when that thing is an 8 or 6 cylinder and it weighs alot, you aren't going to save gas unless u get one of those gay hybrids

Any 4WD vehicle is going to suck more gas then a hooker does dick.
A few things you can do to increase mileage, all of which cost serious coin:
Add a high flow air intake system. Get more air into the engine. A cheaper alternative which helps a little, is just adding a high flow air filter (Like a K&N filter).
Add an aftermarket exhaust system (Cat back).
Basically, if you can make the engine breathe easier and reduce the amount of work the engine has to do to push the exhaust out, the engine doesn't have to work as hard, thus improving fuel economy.
This isn't your magic switch, per se. This will not improve your fuel economy large scale, but you should see a few miles per gallon improvement. I have a K&N filter in my Silverado, and I saw about a 1-2 mpg improvement."What we are dealing with here, is a complete lack of respect for the law" - Jackie Gleason, Smokey and the Bandit

on a Jeep inline six, the benefits of a ricer intake are negligible. same with the power chips. save your money.
of course if you were worried about mileage you shouldn't have bought a Jeep. my mileage does go up a bit when i lose 250 pounds of hard top and full doors.
guy i work with has a 4 cylinder Wrangler, and he put a Borla cat-back exhaust on it. he drives past my house on the way to work...i can hear him coming down the street, even with the house closed up tight, and me in the basement. sounds pretty bad."is this a good show tonight, or fuckin' what?" - DLR, Montreal, 11/10/07

I definitely wouldn't put in a loud exhaust. Unless it is a V8, it isn't meant to be heard. You can put in aftermarket exhaust kits that are quiet.

i'd run duals on the ol' truck but the gas tank is on the driver's side and it would be a pain to do it right. i'm gonna settle for a 1 in 2 out Flowmaster.
