Being a Graphic Designer and a true fan of Van Halen, I decided to create a Poster of Ed's Guitars through the years just for myself to frame and hang up.

I never had any intention of producing them or for that matter selling them. As time went by friends would come by and really seemed to like the print, so I had bunch printed at the Printing Plant where I work and gave some out to my friends, then it got out of hand more and more people wanted one. So, it was then I thought WTF,put them up on Ebay and see how it does. Little did I suspect there was a huge demand for them! Then Ed's Lawyers wrote!

"Please note that these posters are unauthorized and are copyright infringements. We at the Van Halen office must shut them down. Please do not list these again as they are illegal. "

Unbeleivable with all that goes on with this band, (or should I say All that does not go on!) They have the time and inclination to do this. As a fellow fan I just wanted to share my creation with fellow fans, not make a $ killing but simply recoup what I lay out. See below for a shot of the poster.

Well, it sort of is in order, my main goal was to keep all the Frankys in order then the others, i didnt want to break apart the "Edvolution" of the frankys with double necks and steinbergers, etc.

This is pure BS.

The "Van halen office" (surely not legit) have no legal means to stop you from selling this. Anyone can take a picture of Eddie, his guitars or anything else they want so long as they are in public. They can legally sell those pictures as well. The ONLY people who have any rights in this situation is the agency or photogapher who own the rights to the pictures you edited and used.

I am gratified that you guys like the poster. But I do not want to clog up "The Links" about selling prints. I am not looking to profit off of "The Links", I just wanted to share my story about dealing with VH Legal.

I have to much respect for you the fans, Brett and the integrity of this site to turn it into an Ebay.

If anyone wants to get a print of the poster, please IM me via aol. "D1134A" Let's not use "The Links" in this way.

not entirely true.

1. He most likely "lifted" these pictures, did not take them himself.

2. most concert tickets state no photography, meaning by purchaesing the ticket, you have agreed to not take pictures and sell them.

3. Even public pictures, this is where it gets very fuzzy, All Ed has to do is prove you are making money off of his copyrights, and not making money off of your pictures. like I said, very fuzzy. something that is copyright, you just have to prove you lost money.

so even if you give them away free, Ed could argue that you are taking business away from him, but I dont think he would win that one
and why be a dick to a fan like that oh wait.. I forgot.

the legal notice is legit...you can't make any kind of profit off of someone else's copyright or intellectual property. I do a lot of concert photography where I am giving permission to shoot bands in concert, but I can not sell those photos. I own the copyright on the photo, but they own their image rights. So it doesn't matter if its public or not, you are infringing on known copyrights to EVH
