Hall of Fame Regrets
VH did not make it in the first year of their eligibilty...anyone think that they went in this year with all the rumors of a tour with DLR and the RHOF thought that they would get big ratings with the first performance with Roth in 20+ years. Am I just a hater to think that that is a big reason they went in?? The Hall was desperate for ratings so they inducted VH to get a TV deal...and now are shooting themselves since there is no VH to actually induct with all bowing out?? Am i Crazy?

you could be crazy
SOME VH LINKS CLASSICS
"Sammy is fat, Dave is bald, Mike is next in line to be the Pope, Eddie is a drunk, Wolfie is fat, Gary is gay, CVH is VH, Mike is VH, Sammy can outsing Dave on a tequilla hangover, Eddie is a meth head, How Many Say I is the worst VH song ever, Up for Breakfast is a close second, Dave was horrible at radio and everybody hates the assless chaps.
Ok I think that covers everything." Ziggysmalls
"I sense that some of our newer passengers may be nervous due to the sudden turbulence. Please be seated, this is simply a normal part of the periodic ride.
I didn't say we'll get to the destination, but until Alex comes out a says what a complete waste of carbon DLR is, we're still climbing, so strap yourselves in.
Those of you who have been on this ride before, the hottie in the mini will be around shortly with your drinks......." Red

i do feel crazy sometimes, but all the stars were lining up for us this time and then they just came crashing down....regardless, get healthy first, that is more important than playing 20+ year old songs.

Since the hall didn't have any TV at the time the announcement was made, I don't think it had anything to do with ratings.

It was just the year for VH. There is a political process to getting in the Hall (often bands have to petition for it), and there may have been some behind-the-scenes work from within the VH camp to help get things moving with the '07 tour that was going to be. It's looking however like the ceremony won't be what all thought--for a very long time--it would be. (Gary was once asked in about 1997 if he would be okay with performing alongside both Sammy and Dave at a possible Hall induction, and he responded with: "It would be an honor.")
I am personally very happy today to have read Ed's open letter. He was literally drinking himself to death, and if he gets well there will maybe be other opportunities to see better things from VH in the future. It won't be the Hall ceremony, but perhaps there will be another time and place.

There was talk of a Van HALEN tour in 2007 at the time the nominations were made last October, but certainly no confirmation of one.. It's probably more likely that the Hall of Fame nomination made certain parties take the idea of a reunion tour more seriously.
Eat Us And Smile
Welcome back, Van HALEN!!!!
...It's the BAND and Dave is really the cat that can front VH. He sang his ASS off and was really cool. No cheese here guys, this is filet Mignon! - Steve Lukather's comment after witnessing a Van HALEN 2007 rehearsal

Getting older has made me a bit more weary of people's intentions. The RRHOF has been getting more strapped for money. Perhaps they were thinking if they induct VH they would be able to sell the rights for big bucks because of the possiblity of getting Edward and Roth on stage together if even for a speech and all the hype that would surround it and regardless of a tour. That in turn brings more attention to the hall. They have in fact more coverage of this year's event than the past. I don't think it's that far fetched to have been a consideration.

REM alone can surely carry the weight of this year's ceremony...

RRHoF had no TV deal this year until Van Halen was inducted. VH1 wasn't going to pass on that.

I totally see where you're going with this and I don't think it's so crazy. In today's world nothing surprises me. If the honchos at the RHOF had their own agenda for voting VH in it wouldn't surprise me. Don't get me wrong, I believe VH deserves the honor on their own merit, but I wouldn't put it past the HOF.
But you know what? It's also the perfect 'excuse' for VAN HALEN to put their bullshit behind them and capitalize on the opportunity and to cash in. But as we know that opportunity has been wasted..
.
.
VH with Dave ('78-'84) - The best years....the "real" VH.
VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.

Ratings?... The only time anyone cares about ratings is when you're talking ad dollars. I see where you're going too, but the Hall makes their $$$ from the $2500/tables and sponsors and all that. If someone cared about ratings, it's VH-1.. and it's been pointed out the Hall didn't have any TV deal with them at the time of the announcement.
Sings like a bird. Rocks like a pig.
