Anyone know jack about ftp

I try to long onto my website to do updates and it gives me a warning that reads:

FTP Folder Error: Windows cannot access this folder. Make sure you typed the filename correctly and that you have permission to access the folder.

Details: The server name or address could not be resolved.

Anyone have any idea how to fix this? It is a pain right in my ass.

You might want to add some detail about how you're trying to do this. It sounds as though you have the wrong address.

Its the same address I have used all along. I even have it saved in my favs. I go to my ftp://*******.com/. I then hit page and click on Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer. That is where I usually enter my user name and password, but instead get that wonderful message instead.

MikeL, I think you're right. I just tried to open ftp://www.yahoo.com and got the same error.

Manually type the address at the RUN prompt and wait.

If that doesn't get you in go through IE just to prove you're locked out.

Type the address at the top of a browser. BTW, did you just upgrade to VISTA?

I can get to the page that tells me its the FTP root at ********.com. I hit Page on the upper tool bar and click on Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer and I get that damn message.

Dont have Vista.

Could my sites admin server be down?

Try using an actual FTP client. Browser-based FTP is fishy.

Is the tech support non-existant? Do you have a control panel you can force a password change?

PM me the FTP address and I'll try it. Do you know it in the properties of your network connection in the properties of your network connection for this in the control panel? Can you ping the FTP address, or PM it to me with the username/password?

Yes Phatie that is me.

I drank alot and the problem only gets worse. The club owner that I do the website for is starting to get antsy because no updates are getting put on the website. And he looses money if the website isnt updated.

Fuck I hate IE7.
