Why is the tour off? Any rumours out there?
We are all caught up in the "who is attending the RRHOF ceremonies", but I still want to know:
Why has the tour been called off in the first place? Is it money, is it ego, is it Michael vs Wolf gang?????
What is the reason? I have heard nothing other than the tour is off. But why? Does anyone have any rumour??????"The last singer was a singer, I am THE singer" - DLR

Holy crap! Nerf Herder, havent seen you around for a LONG time.
Here are the rumors:
1. Ed is a complete mess and someone in the band wants him to get help prior to the tour. Supposedly somebody we would not expect (Al or Wolf, not Roth).
2. Ed is a complete mess and Clearchannel wants him to get help prior to the tour.
3. Dave is balking at the 'Wolf replace Mike' idea (little late for that).
4. Val doesnt want her 16 year old son to go out on tour (little late for that).
5. It's Van Halen, what do you expect?
There you go, I might have missed a few but these are the accepted rumors as of today.

EVH?
DLR, circa 2001:
"Hey this is David Lee Roth and I promised you the news and here's the news.
About a year ago myself and the great Van Halen band played together once or twice and it sounded amazing!
In the following several months Edward and I, Edward Van Halen and me, David Lee Roth, created some of the most amazing, phenomenal - the hands fell off the clock ladies and gentleman and we wrote three astonishing tunes.
That was last July (2000) and since then I haven't been up to the studio, we haven't really been in touch and we haven't made any music, but I am holding forth, I'm in the shape of my life and I got the high note - I'm ready to go.
And I am positive for the future ladies and gentleman.
Stay tuned and I'll tell you what the future brings..."

I'm sure this has been posted elsewhere, but I wonder if promoters are the reason the tour is off. After the 2004 debacle, it wouldn't surprise me if they're not so willing to take a flyer on a band reuniting with their most famous frontman, with an unproven teenager playing bass.....no offense meant to Wolf, but if I were a promoter, it would be the original four, or no go.

I'd buy that. I've always thought that it was a breakdown b/w what the boys demanded (in terms of $$$) and what the promotors offered (see VIP surveys). That impasse may have contributed to Ed's descent but problems with the promotors seems to be the most plausible trigger for me. That and the fact that the current lineup is a major roll of the dice for those writing the checks.

I'd drink that Kool-Aid as well...however....why would they sign on...and then...suddenly postpone it or pull the plug (by the way it hasn't been officially cancelled). They knew Wolfie was gonna be on bass...they knew Roth was gonna be on vocals, regardless of what Ed says. The promoter's knew all this. They are aware of 2004. They'd have to be.
I doubt Live Nation is going, "Hey, did you see VH's tour in 2004...yeah they toured in 2004...yeah...and Ed didn't play so hot....REALLY...okay shut her down."
I highly doubt that is what is happening. My man, when you are fantasizing, don't go for attainable, you can get attainable at the local Applebee's. - Dave's Dreidel

Just a thought:
So when they sent out those surveys and we all filled out the lowest possible ticket prices for the tickets, maybe the promoters got cold feet? In that case, WE are the cause of the postponement!!
Or it's Eddie like always.CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

Dudes i doubt that it is the lack of interest in the band, we can scratch that right away. They are playing amphitheaters, not football stadiums, and people will come out, hell in the summertime i live near PNC Arts center amphitheater in New Jersey and fucking FOREIGNER and STYX brought in 15-16,000 people. Van Halen still pulled enough weight in 2004 to fill actual arenas, sometimes two nights of arenas. Plus it is only 40 dates, so that boosts attendance as people will travel to see the band cause VH won't be able to get to every market.
Let's just look at a recent trend of events.
in the mid 90s, the sisters made one of the most boneheaded moves in rock history by FIRING Hagar, (why? cause Hagar did not want to become a thing of the past and release greatest hits albums when he felt they were still capable of making loads of new music...what a crazy idea that must have been to Ed and Al!),
their next move was eliciting a standing ovation by appearing on stage with David Lee Roth, releasing two well-received songs with him, causing a peak in interest in the band, and then dropping that peak instantly by refusing to entertain the idea of collaborating further with him.
Van Halen III came out and was a pile of shit, that was a clusterfuck of ideas, and the beginning of Eddie Van Halen completely demanding control of all band decisions (musically and otherwise)
In 2000 they fuck up AGAIN with Roth, who by all accounts had left his ego at the door, because Ed is a sensitive crybaby
Then in 2004 they release 3 subpar songs, mislead the fans and stage a cash grab, below average tour where Ed is drunk, HATES two of his band members, and begins fucking his bass player in the ass monetarily, who happens to be beloved by all fans, Roth or Hagar.
Now lets see...In each of these head scratching, perplexing events, does anyone notice a common thread? yes, you are correct if you said Eddie has poor decision making skills, even worse social skills, and the WORST propensity for creating problems where there is little to NO reason to create any. He even creates problems when they are in HIS interest monetarily and socially NOT to do so. Not to mention that the band has by far, hands down, the WORST website and WORST public relations of any band that is supposedly still active.
Alex sits back, and though he is supposedly the sober one, he just goes with it, in each of these situations, making him an accessory to the crime of possibly the most dysfunctional band in mainstream rock.
So, what's the reason the tour fell apart?
THE SISTERS had another bout of PMS, and now they are bleeding out of their cooters and taking a few more giant leaps towards obsucrity. BRAVO!!!!!!!! If this tour is off permanently, then if they try again in another three or four years (which seems to be the trend) the only people that will attend will be those registered at VHLinks.com, and thats a generous estimate.
