paint ideas

im gonna strip my old 84 kramer baretta in the next few days and im gonna be cheecky and ask some of you guys for some ideas on the paint/ final finsh.
i dont want it to be another evh frankie replica, but it may feature "5150" on it somewhere (small).
ive already changed the pup to a semour pearly gates.

any ideas guys??

I was thinking you should put the numbers 5150 underneath the strings by the pickup. Then maybe instead of doing your whole guitar in the stripe patter, you should come up with a design that has one or two stripes so people look at it and go, "Ahhh look he's got some stripes like Ed's"...instead of..."Look...he's trying to be Eddie van Halen."

Or you should just stripe the headstock. then people will notice the headstock and understand what you're trying to say. lol

i know what u are saying and i agree with most of it, i do want to get away from the "oh he thinks he's eddie" scenario i was gonna put the "5150" on the back more for me than anything else, the last guitar i built (pictures in the replica thread) was striped different to ed's black and white guitar but was similar enogh for people to "get"
this time i was thinking about a whole different direction though.

i actually kinda like the idea of the wonder bread bag...in a funny kinda way

I just finished stripping a Wolfgang body, and it was one of the bigger pain in the ass things I've ever done. Since the clear was polyurethane, regular stripper wouldn't work--I just had to sand. Six-plus hours with the power sander... crazy poly dust everywhere...

yeah i had a similar problem with a strat body i stripped by hand, fender in all their whisdom painted it black on top with primer underneath which was hiding an electric blue metalic finish underwhich was more primer and sealer not to mention the laquer on top of all that, i think it took about 6-8 hours over 2 days to strip with a sanding machine and a final going over by hand, crazy thing was when i reattached the neck the neck pocket was about 2mm too wide on either side whereas before it fitted snuggly....lol

Dude ... Kleenstrip makes stripper for ALL tyoes of finishes.
I believe the stripper for urethane comes in a blue can.
I've used it MANY times.

Just read the can.
Your power sander will thank you.
