What is AVH's excuse?

He is not an an alocholic or druggie right?

Why is AVH so weak and such a lap dog?

Why has the so called sane member of Van Halen not stood up to EVH, not taken control and let this band make one huge mistake after another?

Alex has stated before that Eddie writes all of the music, which means no Eddie = no Van Halen. So as far as the band is concerned, it's either Ed's way or the high way. Still, you'd think someone close to Eddie would stand up and say something for a change, I mean, this is REALLY REALLY RIDICULOUS!

Blood is thicker than water. Also, things aren't as simple as many think and nobody is with these guys on a regular basis to know what is going on. We do know that Eddie is pretty fried and fortunate to still be alive. It is almost impossible to deal with someone like this let alone trying to keep a band together and going and tour.

Alex is a recovering alcoholic. He quit drinking after the 5150 tour. Although, in the two chapters of Sammy's unreleased book that leaked out, he claims that Alex fell off the wagon towards the end of the Balance tour. We really don't know what goes on in private between Eddie and Alex. For all we know, Alex reams Ed out all the time about his drinking. These two are brothers, and even though they are close, I'm sure they argue quite frequently like most brothers do. Alex does seem to have his act together somewhat. He and Eddie do seem to have the same opinion on things. For those of you who are too young to remember the early days of VH, Alex was an absolute wildman party maniac. Alex was Dave's partner in crime and they used to get in a lot of trouble together. Those days are over, and hopefully Alex will push Ed to get the help he needs. Shame on him if he does sit back and do nothing regarding Ed's drinking.

OK I'll bite. I think that you first have to start with an understanding that blood is thicker than most anything, and from what I've read over the years, Ed and Al have been through a fair amount together which only works to make their bond and allegiance to one another stronger. Add to the mix the fact that both of their parents have passed on so in terms of immediate family, they're it. I know how loyal I've been to my brother and how that bond b/w Ed and Al must be mighty strong given their history together all these years both pre- and post-VH. They've probably gotten tighter since Ed's bout w/cancer and at their age realize that each new day is a gift.

As far as drug/alcohol use, I'm sure that Al has "participated" is his fair share of the rock and roll lifestyle. Of the few interviews that I've heard in the past, he has always seemed to be the most level headed and lucid of the bunch. I've always thought the he appeared to be a cross b/w VH's CEO, spokesperson and "keeper" of the group. My impression anyway.

Finally, Ed is Al's little brother and in many ways I think that Al still tries to "cover" for him, at least insofar as VH is concerned. These guys grew up with and alcoholic father so making the best out of a bad situation is probably old hat for the two of them. I'd bet that their pretty tight so whatever Ed feels, Al feels it to; from getting rid of MA to reuniting w/Dave, I have a feeling that they operate more like a unit and less like two sperate individuals.

As for standing up to Ed, he's not going to that any more than I would stand up to my brother if, at least in my mind, everything was "acceptable". I truly don't think that Ed and Al care if they ever release another note of music, they've made their mark (and a bit of coin) so if it happens, it happens; and if not, oh well.

I truly think that these guys operate on a different plane than any of us here do. I can't imagine what it's like to be EVH any more than Bill Gates can imagine what it's like to come up short when paying his bills. I also think that there is much that goes on behind the scenes that the fans (and general public) don't see. The interpersonal dynamic that exists b/w band members must be interesting indeed.

Long answer to a few short questions, but it's my opinion that the situation that Ed and Al find themselves in now is considerably more complex then we'll ever know.

Not knowing what the real story is between the two, we can only put together pieces from different sources. The thought seems to be that Alex has tried on numerous occassions to get Edward help and Edward has had enablers that helped him to avoid the intervention. There is only so much any of us can do for someone, even our own family. Edward's problems are not his brother's fault.

Secondly, Alex and Edward are beyond loyal to each other. It would be a nail in the coffin if Alex betrayed Edward and took his kit and played without his brother, especially with ex or current bandmates.

Thirdly, Alex having had some financial hardships due to various reasons is probably indebted to his brother and the VH brand to earn a living.

I do not know any of this to be fact, only what I can gleen from people who supposedly are in the know, interviews, etc.

I can see all the brother and blood stuff, however even though the bros have gone though soo much including Eddie's cancer scare, there are many bands that have had cancer or worse to deal with including deaths. AVH and EVH have made millions of dollars and are regarded as artists/musicians. For the most part other bands get there act together and dont become a laughing joke. Being the older brother you would think AVH could get control of this thing. If EVH is in bad shape I can see him skipping the RRHOF but what would AVH''s excuse be?
