While you've got the D-Tuna off, verify that it properly sits in and moves around in the shaft of the D-Tuna. If it doesn't, there's your problem. If it does, well then it's something else, most likely related to the small set screw.
It does move freely along the screw, and doesn't seem to have any hang up within the unit itself.... I used the longest screw, should I purchase something longer?

OK..installed a D-Tuna on my franky..and does'nt work well..it slides ok...locks ok..but the tuning is WAY off!....what might be the problem, i'm using the short scew right now. So say i tune it to D..when i punch it in E..it's WAY to low still, between 420 and 430 actually.!

I have a similar issue. It is working correctly yet when I tune to D flat, push in for E flat, it is not in tune. When I try to use the small set screw it brings the E sharp, problem I have is that I need the E to be more flat? This forces me to have to slightly adjust the Floyd fine tuner. Then I am out when I drop back to D flat.

What gauge strings do you have on your Frankenstrat? I had One D-tuna that worked fine using 9-42's - tried using different gauge strings and had the same problem as you described.

I also had another that had the chrome plating thickness issue - used some sandpaper over a drill to remove the plating - worked GREAT afterwards!

¸i use 10-46...and the thing works well mechanicaly..moves freely and drops under the saddle well..just can't tune it. there's a tiny screw on the side of the thing that uses a tiny allan key!..what's that thing for?

that's for tuning it! tune to D with the d-tuna out, then move the d-tuna in, and use that small hex screw to fine tune it to E.

Leave it backed out and use it to raise the pitch when you slide in to E. To me, it's hard to use without causing the d-tuna to dig into the fine adjuster screw when sliding.

Personally, I always re-checked the tremolo spring tension to see if it was raising the slightest bit when moving to E and also made sure my intonation was spot on. I never used 10-46's so I can't comment but I did have the problem moving to super light/regular strings. I could never get it to work right!

Default D-Tuna only goes down half-a-step

What would cause a D-Tuna to detune only half-a-step?

Have you read thru the sticky thread above about Dtuna installations? I think it might answer all of your questions.

If you have questions after looking through that, I would be glad to help answer them, and I'm sure everyone else would too.
