VH Gets ripped apart on the Radio
The WMMS afternoon host spent an hour yesterday ripping on the Ed and Al interview with Rolling Stone. They tore it apart. Even worse than what was on here.
Quote: "Eddie is trying to sell this steaming pile that his son on bass makes them better than with Michael Anthony! What a douchebag. Doesn't that guy have the most famous Bass Guitar in the world? The Jack Daniels Bass!"
Quote: "If you have all this music, Ed, where the hell is it."
Quote: "He sounds like a washed up stoner from the 60's. This guy is done for. It sucks but he is over."
Quote: "Alex Van Halen sounds like Ed McMahon on the Johnny Carson show. He just sits in the background and agrees with everything."
I guess we aren't the only ones who thinks this sucks...Lets just throw a pound of weed in the fire place, f@#% it!

No it's in the right place I would have to say.
Everything that you posted there is accurate. However from what I have watched from my Carson DVD's as I was not alive during the major run of the show...is...McMahon never ALWAYS agreed with Johnny. They had their disagreements. My man, when you are fantasizing, don't go for attainable, you can get attainable at the local Applebee's. - Dave's Dreidel

Get used to it, guys.
Actually, we won't have to listen to it for long. Guess our favorite band is destined to fade away with an embarassing whisper, not burn out in a blaze of glory.
What all this rigamarole amounts to, is VH in its death throes.
Doesn't even matter if they pull out a tour after this. They've suffered considerable PR damage before announcing one date.
I just don't see how they can recover, barring a clean and sober Eddie apologizing to all, getting Mike back in the fold, cutting a new LP and a global tour with Dave or Sam. Sure, and while I'm at it, I'll be wishin' for peace in the Middle East and a Talbot Lago Teardrop Coupe in mint condition.
Not so mighty Van Halen anymore.Last edited by Van Squalen; 03.01.07 at 06:26 PM.

I don't know if this is the right forum or not to say this, but I've been thinking about it a lot.
These DJs beginning to slam Van Halen, or that were picking up news and reporting it when the rumors were flying around all seem to pick that information up from here.
Brett runs a helluva site, and it always seems like when something is posted here (whether rumor, or link to a net story) it's not long until it's being broadcast over the radio in some form. Word-of-mouth is a powerful thing, and that's essentially what's happening here.
It makes me wonder a couple of things: Are we just about the only fans the band has left? I'm guessing we're a majority, certainly of the hardcore fans. And, has this information getting out killed this band?
If there is a tour, word-of-mouth is how the casual fan is gonna know about it. Of course, the casuals will buy most of the tickets. But if the WOM is bad, will that kill the tour (attendance)?
I don't want to subscribe too much power into what we do here, and maybe I'm all fucked up in the head to think we are driving reporting by some media. But I remember Howard Dean in 2004. A small group of people, banding together on the internet broke his campaign. He flamed out, yes, but it was that group that used message boards to help get the word out and help him raise money. And he went from unknown to a front runner in the polls. And media attention followed the buzz.
VH obviously has no clue about the power of the internet, or PR. They could've used it to their advantage at any point during this debacle (including the MA out and Wolfie in thing) to persuade many of us here to jump on board. They didn't. Is it too late now? I really don't see how they are going to drive the casual fan out to buy a ticket if they do tour, if most of what's being said is negative. Especially if they no-show the RRHOF.
If things were cool, and we were excited, I'm betting the buzz they'd get would be pretty decent. In mid-tour, if the reviews here and other places were good, I'm sure that would drive more sales. I'm guessing the opposite is true, as well.
So I just wonder if anybody here thinks what I say is true, and will this be the "threshold" to complete ruin in the casual fans eye should they fuck up the RRHOF deal?SOME VH LINKS CLASSICS
"Sammy is fat, Dave is bald, Mike is next in line to be the Pope, Eddie is a drunk, Wolfie is fat, Gary is gay, CVH is VH, Mike is VH, Sammy can outsing Dave on a tequilla hangover, Eddie is a meth head, How Many Say I is the worst VH song ever, Up for Breakfast is a close second, Dave was horrible at radio and everybody hates the assless chaps.
Ok I think that covers everything." Ziggysmalls
"I sense that some of our newer passengers may be nervous due to the sudden turbulence. Please be seated, this is simply a normal part of the periodic ride.
I didn't say we'll get to the destination, but until Alex comes out a says what a complete waste of carbon DLR is, we're still climbing, so strap yourselves in.
Those of you who have been on this ride before, the hottie in the mini will be around shortly with your drinks......." Red

I guess we have to face it VH has really become a joke. Even if they do this tour (which I doubt), I can't see the masses coming out to hear tunes from 1978 to 1984 only. Maybe 5 or 10 years ago or with MA and some kickass new music.

I disagree. They could stage a comeback and it be successful. America loves a comeback. They love to tear'em down to build'em back up. The challenge is whether anyone can get Edward built back up again before it's too late. But man, what a story it would make if they could get him the help he so obviously needs. He could make the rounds talking about his soberity to Oprah and Ellen, make some apologizes to those who have been hurt then release a CD written while he was going through recovery with a tour behind it including Dave, Mike, Al and introduce Wolfie. People would eat it up.
LOL and yeah, I like a good dream.

Sweetie, the day we see Eddie Van Halen on Oprah or Ellen talking 12 step sobriety is the day I eat Eddymon's entire collection of edible panties.
The thing is, they've already staged a plethora of 'comebacks.' America loves a comeback, yes. America most certainly does not love the third, fourth, or fifth comebacks. For further details, see John Travolta, Danny Bonaduce, Robert Downey Jr., Anthony Michael Hall, Roseanne, The Beach Boys minus Brian Wilson, and, um....David Lee Roth bluegrassin.'
PM me, toots.

They certainly can pull off a major comeback and I suspect if Ed can pull it together they most certainly will.
Remember a little band called Aerosmith. They were absolutly on the brink of complete destruction and sobriety pulled it back in focus and they got hot, big time hot!
They can do for sure, but the question is who has the balls to guide them and does Ed and Al want it bad enough? All you need in this life is a tremendous sex drive and a great ego , brain's don't mean a shit! ~ Captain Tony Tarracino
I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me. ~ Hunter S. Thompson
When you figure out that you can't figure it out, your finally gettin your shit together. ~ Jimmy Buffett

I think this part of your post makes a lot of sense. He/She who embraces the technology of the day gets the prize. VH is still conducting themselves like they were 30 years ago. No matter what's been going on behind the scenes, regular communication about plans and events would make a HUGE difference to fans. How would people react if a band member or direct representative from the band posted to this forum (or their own, which doesn't exist anymore) with info about rehearsals, tour plans, etc.? What about a note about the tour postponement with a brief, even vague explanation? It would go a LONG way.
But, no. Hence us diehard, who take all this time to post to the Links, sit in idle frustration.

I have a feeling Tulsi Gabbard will last the longest in Trump's cabinet and will eventually take over MAGA when he's out of office. Sorry Vance, but he's milquetoast. Tulsi is the future!
