Default Gary in a WHO tribute band?

The sound sucks but I can tell that they are pretty good. The band is called "Slipkid"

If this is what I think it is, this is one of Mike Portnoy's (Dream Theater drummer) side projects. He's done a Beatles tribute, a Led Zeppelin tribute, and a Rush tribute as well. Each time he's had Paul Gilbert on guitar and different singers. This whole concert should be coming out on DVD on Mike Portnoy's website soon, but I'm not sure when yet.

As a side note...if you haven't already bought Paul Gilbert's new all-instrumental CD "Get Outta my Yard", it's awesome. He will be on the G3 tour starting in March with Joe Satriani and John Petrucci (also of Dream Theater).

No wwe have something else to compare.
Who sings "Won't get fooled again" better, Sammy or Gary?
From what I heard with sucky quality I'd say Gary.

. It is him, his brother and a couple other cats from the Boston Area. They played at a local bar down the street from me a few weeks back. I would have gone, but I didn't know about it until affter the show.

just checked out the youtube links. It is actually from the show I missed. Tequila's in Danvers Ma.

SLIP KID, is not just another WHO tribute/cover band,
nor does it try to impersonate them.
Rather It is a truly inspired celebration of the music
and live performance of THE WHO,
That captures the raw emotional energy of the band.
And WHO better to do it?

The brain child of the brothers Cherone,
with Markus on guitar and Gary singing lead,
SLIP KID was born from a common bond that has influenced
them from the very beginning and continues to inspire today.
The band consists of veterans of the Boston music scene with
Gary's former bandmate, singer, songwriter Paul Mangone on bass,
and the manic antics of Moon handled by Dana Spellman on drums.
Rounding out the sound on keyboards and programming Jeff Calder.

Whether your a casual or hard-core fan,
you will hear everything from the early eclectic pop
to the familiar anthems of a g-g-g-generation,
with a few odds and sods in-between.

I saw them a few months ago at this dive in malden, ma and they were awesome. The setlist from start to finish was the set that you want to hear the Who play....just hit after hit and killed every song. It made me go and download a lot of Who songs that I had forgotten about.

Wow... I really don't know what you're talking about. Sammy nails that song. The screams give me chills. Gary just sounded OK to me in that clip.

You are kidding about Gary sounding better??? Sammy tore it up live/and on tour with Won't Get Fooled Again. Gary sounded OK, I know the quality was not the greatest, but come on, this is a no brainer.

Guess I was wrong about this one being Mike Portnoy's band (it was hard for me to see who was in that clip other than Gary), but then this makes it the second Who tribute band Gary has performed with, because I know he did sing for Portnoy's tribute band.

Too bad I'm in Colorado and don't get chances to see these killer shows!

i saw gary at his nyc tribe of judah gig a few years ago at don hill's, and as part of the encore he did a who song then (i forget which one... i have the setlist at home), and remember him nailing it then as well! and this was way before the portnoy project, so he must be a big fan...

I though that the VH version of "Won't Get Fooled Again" on RHRN was done in the studio with crowd noise added in later.
I also thought they did not perform that song live at all. Thats the only tour I have missed since I was stationed in Kodiak Alaska during my Coast Guard years and they didn't come up there.

Saw this show in the Chicago burbs last year. I've seen my share of concerts, dating back to VH in the early 80s. This WHO tribute Gary sang lead on was one of the top 5 shows I have ever seen......Gary Cherone, Billy Sheehan, Paul Gilbert and Mike Portnoy recreated the Who better than the Who are doing today.....

Pick up the DVD once its available from Portoy's site
