Talk about singin' the blues. Anyone else take a beating yesterday in the Stock Market. Hurts just thinking about it. Now this was out of my 401K and fortunately I still have a chunk left, still . . . Worst beating in stocks I've ever had. I had the whole thing tied to the Dow and S&P, the Dow had been in record territory just a few days back. I'll get it back eventually, but that's a chuck of retirement to say bye to.

You didn't lose anything. If you didn't sell your shares, then you will get all that money back eventually.

yeah, you don't lose anything unless you sell. And never get emotional or buy into the hype. I work on a trading desk, and to say things were hectic yesterday is an understatement. But it appears there will be somewhat of a comeback this morning.- at least pre-market indicators are leaning that way.

yeah, you get these corrections every now and again, but you should be ok... don't sweat it... i barely look at my 401k, and i've been putting into it for 10+ years... it'll come back... that is, unless canada or mexico invades us, takes over our country and sends us into the dark ages...

400 + points, a correction? It was an ass-kicking. 100 points in a correction, to me anyways. Yes, eventually I'll get back up there, not going to jump off a bridge or anything. Just a few more beers than normal this weekend. Oh, yeah, the 22k (21,770) was over the last week or so, only about 90% was yesterday.

No, I didn't transfer anything. Gonna see if there's a bit of a correction in the next few days or so, hoping there is.

If you're still contributing to your 401, look at it as an opportunity to buy low. Just remember that over any 10 year period in the history of the markets, the stock market has produced a better return than any other investment vehicle. Unless you were planning on retiring soon, I wouldn't be too concerned. It's just a paper loss right now.

All of this seems to have been tied to metals and construction and especially because of a little crisis of faith in the Chinese markets. China is already going back up again, so hopefully it's nothing to worry about, though Greenspan is predicting a downturn by the end of this year. Might be worth watching what happens.

Still, looks scary as hell when you see figures like that being lost in a week. Reminds me of the property crash in the UK in the early 90's. People living in houses that were worth less than the mortgage they had taken out on them.

Personally, I tend to invest in breweries and, whilst I don't actually own any shares, I like to think of it as my little contribution to a smooth and successful economy.

Whilst one person cannot truly make a difference in the global scheme of things, one person CAN set an example for others to follow. Plus, aluminium cans are recyclable.

Well, I'm sure that you're not retiring for a long time, so right now you're in the accumulation stage. Would you rather be buying into the market at a low or a high? I'd say you had great timing. It's the people planning on retiring in the near future who have the most to be concerned about. Just make sure your 401 is diversified and not all tied into one company.

What did I tell you? The Dow is up 97 points as I type this. Can't give any advice about specific stocks, but I can give general advice on the market in general and investing.

Dude, a stock or gen'l investing thread would be incredible..
I'm an idiot when it comes to this stuff and our 401k guy could give a shit..he only caters to the very rich..
