Just How Good Was Mitch Malloy

I actually have his debut album and it is very good, but while his singing and songwriting are very strong - the music is heavy on the ballads and rock songs are not exactly heavy.

Has anyone heard his later albums? Were they heavier? Essentially,what would make Eddie sit up and take notice of him. Is it because he can do the Sammy thing (ballads, commercial hard rock songs) or did his later albums show a side that would have made VH with Malloy heavy as fuck and he can do the Sammy thing.

I took a listen to some of his stuff a couple of years ago, and it didn't really do it for me. He sounds like a great singer, and I think Eddie was really into the scream-singer guy, which is what Gary was also. It's anybody's guess what he would have sounded like in VH. Mitch, however, was smart enough to back away after the VMAs in '96.

I have one of his cd's buried in my room. Good singer, but I couldn't stand all the love songs.

IMO he was Sammy Hagar Lite.

Well, I can guarrantee that we probably won't have to worry about the possibility of Mitch getting in to VH in the future. He's moved to Nashville and is getting heavy play on Sirius New Country. He sounds just like his rock stuff, just acoustic and more sappy.

I've been trying for 10 years to get Mitch to come off of the tape made with him at 5150.....he won't do it. He is a great guy.....great singer.

Truly dreadful, the guy cannot write lyrics to save his life. "One Love" "Pray the lord my soul to keep"... all he got is Bible school lyrics. Awful, awful.

VH III wasn't good compared to VH's very high standards. With another name it would've been a decent rock record.

This Mitch Malloy stuff is below average.

He has it, because for a good two weeks, he was a member of the band.......just four or five tunes.
