Default Should Ted Templeman produce new VH Music?

While we wait for things to get straightened out in VH-land, I thought I'd pose this question: should Ted Templeman be involved in any way in any future VH recordings? It seems like any association Ted had with them in the past, including Dave solo, usually turned out many gold nuggets. I would also think you need someone other than Ed in the control booth to be sure he's reeled in from swaying too far and putting out something that's too far left of center (see '3').

I don't know if there's any bad blood with Ted, so if there were then the point would be moot. Personally, I would like to see them work together again.

There would have to be new music on the horizon for this to be an issue.

I think Ted is retired now. I'd suggest Rick Rubin or someone more modern. Definately not Mike Post.

I can see about one response this question will evoke. I mean really, have you ever heard a VH fan complain about how the earlier work sounded?

I guess the better question is, who would be a good producer for new VH music? Yes, I'm presuming that there will be new music eventually (gotta hold onto something, and I don't think it's out of the question).

I'm not sold on Rick Rubin. He produces anyone and everyone. Velvet Revolver dropped him because they felt he didn't really bring anything to the table. From what I've read, his style is to tell the artist to come to the studio with prepared music, to NOT expect to create in the studio. Don't know if that really works for most artists; if they have already written completed (or almost completed) music, what do they need him for? A branded stamp of approval on their cd (produced by...)?

Not Bob Rock... he's done enough to Metallica to last us a while.

Not some newer, trendy poppy producer either...

    I don't know... any ideas?

actually, roth mentioned somewhere that they (or was it he?) was hopeful that they would record new music with this lineup, even if it were after the tour...

I believe Ted is in his early 60s. Can be be coaxed out? Not sure, better question for him or at least people who know him.

i agree... even if he doesn't bring as much to the table as he used to, seeing ted templeman's name on the record would be more exciting to me than rick rubin's... it would give me an inkling that they're trying to recapture that old sound, even if it does have a new twist to it...

Ted's going to be 63 this year. I don't know if he'd even be the best choice at this point to do an album. Remember, Carnal Knowledge was over sixteen years ago.
