    Default Interesting LA Times Article

The mods might end up closing this but I thought I start a new thread to bring attention to this LA TImes article. Some interesting background info regarding tour postponment, Dave quotes, VH brother no-shows at RNRHF and Wolfie being inspiration for tour/reunion.

Wow. What a great article. It sounds to me that Al and Wolfie are helping Ed get things straight. I hope they don't appear at the R'nR Hall of Fame Ceremony, because I'd rather he get the help that is needed. I'm glad Roth is still acting as the spokesperson. He's so damn good at it.

That was a cool read. Alot cooler than I thought it would be. It will be fucked up if Sam, Dave, and Mike are at the hall of fame induction, yet the VH brothers aren't there. That would be the most fucked up thing of all, but... this is VH we are talkin about here.

Yeah. Also, Dave gave his reason for playing with Wolfie. Basically, it's the same reason I believed and understood from the start. They aren't getting any younger, and if Eddie wants to play with his son while healthy, Dave might as well do so. I understand where he is coming from. I think he feels bad for Mike, but it sounds like things really aren't going well for Eddie now. Wolfgang was playing back guitar solos on his iPod so his dad could get them right? That's pretty sad. I'm praying for you, Eddie.

Dave's voice of reason reflects his extremely high intelligence. It may be part of the spice that lifts brother Eddie out of the darkness. Roth and Anthony have a heart of gold from what I can see, Wolf will be the inspiration ot do it, and brothers are brothers.

C'Mon Ed! You CAN do it...

Interesting read. I guess we now know who the issue is. As if it was a question.

Yeah, I saw this in some other thread (), and I thought it was very interesting. It encapsulates the reasons there's more than just general principle behind my refusal to indulge in fat jokes and demonize the kid.

But dammit, if Wolfie's participation was a requisite in all this, he coulda been this band's fifth Beetle. He coulda done the keys ("Cradle" needs 'em, remember), or rhythm guitar, or vocal backups, or some combination, or who knows what else they would have hired other musicians for anyway.

Purists may bleat at the prospect, but fuck, long as Mike was still in his rightful place, I coulda gotten behind it. If the kid made good contributions and goaded Eddie's game, I'd have even thought it was pretty cool, not at all a bad way to end things.

But now we don't even know if The Brothers are showing up to The Hall.

"...guided by creaky logic" - I swear I've read something just that incisive 'round here before...

Dude, read between the lines. Eddie isn't doing well. Fuck the tour. The guy, who has controlled the band and drove it into the ground even after Daniels, might be getting help. Hopefully, he'll retain clarity and see all the mistakes he's made in the past eleven years or so.

We just all have to face the fact that Eddie Van Halen is one of the most amazingly bright and then sad stories in popular music history.

His implosion, and therefore that of the band Van Halen, is one of the saddest, messiest ever.

With the money involved in the potential tour, all he would have had to do was be able to stand on stage and play the notes he wrote and played for decades. Everyone (the entire machine that made up the tour) would have done everything else. All the PR, spin, management, glad-handlers, yes-men, and otherwise would have coverered to make it look legit.

An inability at this point to pull this off just illustrates that this is no normal decline in music. This is one of the saddest, most pathetic ever.

My compliments to Michael and Sammy to know when to say when. While Eddie is their friend, you can't cover for him forever. The 2004 tour was proof enough that they were carrying him on and off stage.

I personally wish him well at this point. This is about more than music now. I hope he saves his family and life.

I'm concerned he's destined to just blow away.

What a train wreck. Embarassing, really.

I just feel sorry for him. Surely he would have never intentionally torn down the band to this degree.

I'm really beginning to believe that aliens have abducted Ed. I mean, WTF? What happened to the guy who smiled all the time? Everything I've seen of Ed since 2003, has reminded me of a homeless guy. He hasn't done anything of note since 1995. That's 12 years of booze, and possibly drugs. It's no small wonder that Valerie left him. The guy has turned into a goddam hermit who caved in to the pressures of fame and fortune. All he needs to do now is pull a Syd Barret and that'll be icing on the cake.

Ed, you've had a successful career. From '78-'95, you ruled the world by achieving everything that the majority of people want in this world. Why do you have to throw it all away? Either give it up for good or come back with a vengeance. As many people say, "Either shit, or get off the pot".

If you've got addictions, KICK THE FUCKING SHIT OUT OF THEM! If Keith Richards, Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton can beat that crap, then so can you.
