Media Disinformation Growing Fast

Just heard a report on LA area news radio KFWB 980 AM about the tour "falling apart." My jaw was literally hitting the floor with the innacuracies in the report.


Basically, according the the report, the tour which was just announced last week has fallen apart because Roth was pissed at Eddie's girlfriend who issued the press release about the reunion and tour before Dave was signed on to do the tour along with the fact that she doesn't "represent or speak for" Dave. In addition, Ed's girlfriend was referred to as an "ex-porno star." Most amusing, was the quicky time line about the comings and goings of Hagar and Roth through the years leading to "Sammy Hagar found out he was out of the band in 1998 on the news." Of course, very brief snippits of songs like "Jump" would be played in the background at key times ("Might as well Jump!" when it's mentioned Dave quit again).

Nothing can save this disaster now.

The fact that virtually nothing has been done to counter the dessemination of the postponement / cancellation rumblings is telling in and of itself.

Maybe Dave will add a new chapter telling the sordid tale of yet another reunion in the toilet to his zen/chili recipes book due out this year.

And you're exactly right. The fact that not only the band nor the band's management has done anything to counter this news speaks very loudly.
To me, what speaks more louldy is the fact that Live Nation has done nothing to blow this rumor out of the water. There is no way this would help ticket sales, and Live Nation has a helluva interest in those sales. They'd be out there debunking this thing pronto, if there was something to be debunked.
Unlike the folks up there on Hoody Doody Mountain, you can bet LN has hired professional PR & marketing folks that wouldn't let this fester for any time at all.

If you ask me (and you didn't), not responding sure is getting a lot of free publicity and getting a lot of people talking. Behind the scenes the only people that need to know anything are the venues, the band, and mgmt - and they all probably do.

This made Kfwb news 98 no kiddn lastest ive heard at the top of the hour on another radio station here in LA is someone needs to go to rehab ... alright and lets be nice k...if its true or not true with this info...

Look, there's the old saying that any press good *or* bad is good because it keeps the celebrity out there in people's minds but there's also a line where bad press can really hurt or kill a career and that's exactly what this firestorm of innacurrate, negative reporting is doing.

There is a very small window of time to at least address all the conflicting, unflattering reporting surrounding this fiasco and minimize the damage to the bands' already shaky image if not perhaps even spin it into something positive. At some point, probably in the next few days or so, the general public is going to write the band off left with the impression "Eddie is in rehab" or "Dave quit again because of Eddie's ex-porno girlfriend" or worse whether that's accurate or not.

Even the pr machine working around around downward spiraling Brittney Spears is managing to get sympathy for the bitch from the media. A fucking press release that honestly addresses whatever the probelm is and gives some indication that it's either eventually going to be resolved or even that it's a dead deal would help the band at this point. Waiting until either things get sorted out or even until the RnRHoF ceremony for the other shoe to drop is too little, too late no matter what the problems behind the tour are right now.
