I heard that the movie was all special effects and nothing else. Not many good reviews.

Ok, growing up I was a huge fan of the comic. That said, since I found out 7 years ago that they were planning on making the movie I've been chomping at the bit to go see this thing.

My buddy and I caught the opening showing here in Seattle. I gotta say, I felt pretty let down. THe script was so incredibly bad - there were only 2 actors in the movie: Nicolas Cage and Sam Houston. The story jumped around so goddamn much (utilizing plot devices like the '20 years later' thing) that they didn't give you time to give a shit about anyone. As much as I liked the idea of Peter Fonda playing the devil in a pseudo motorcycle movie (hey, he deserves it - he was in EVERY damn motorcycle movie of the 60s) he was dogshit in this movie... laughable even. The other bad guys were absolutely the worst villians I've ever seen. Even Keanu Reeves could have acted circles around them! But the lines written for the villians were so corny that NO ONE could have saved those roles really. The fight scenes were over in a matter of seconds, so they were really anti-climactic and completely lacking any suspense. Visually the movie was stunning, and Nicolas Cage added some depth to the character and some good light hearted witicisms to keep it interesting. But for as much as I'd expected from this movie, even Daredevil was better.

Yeah, and I went into the movie willing to forgive a lot. Whoever wrote the script should never work again.

I was on the fence about this one. I love comic book flicks, but Ghost Rider was a character I never followed. The ads looked cool and I do enjoy Nick Cage, but after hearing a longtime fan (Knuck) saying it let him down.....I think I'll let this one drift off into the same ether where "Daredevil" and "Fantastic Four" now reside.

    Bring on Spidey 3.

Yeah, and bring on my favorite: THE FLASH! They've finally got a director on board for a movie version of the scarlet speedster. I know, I know... everyone else thinks he sucks but I'm excited.

And yeah, Spiderman 3 with Venom is gonna be great.

    Exclusive: Captain America's Screenwriter
    Marvel enlists a regular collaborator.
    by Stax

February 17, 2006 - Marvel Entertainment honcho Avi Arad revealed a few days ago that there is a screenwriter working on the script for Captain America. Arad said he "does have a director and leading man in mind" but did not reveal who the screenwriter was. Now a reliable source has advised IGN FilmForce who the writer is of the Sentinel of Liberty's big-screen return.

Marvel usually draws on the same stable of screenwriters for its projects, such as David Goyer, Zak Penn, Simon Kinberg and David Hayter. Another of these Marvel veterans is the scribe writing Captain America: David Self.

Self has worked on two other Marvel projects, The Sub-Mariner (a script that Arad has long raved about) and Deathlok. He also adapted the graphic novel Road to Perdition for the big screen, and wrote the Cuban Missile Crisis drama Thirteen Days.

Self's reps at UTA had no comment when asked for confirmation.

"Without giving too much away, obviously there'll be a little bit of the origin and then we come into our real world," Arad recently disclosed. "What makes Captain America such a compelling character is that it allows you to judge history so you see where he came from and you see what he stood for."

Arad said last June, "This script is going to take a little bit of time, because it has to be a masterpiece. It's Back to the Future kind of stuff."

Captain America is part of the Marvel/Paramount deal and isn't expected to reach theaters until 2009.

Oh yeah, I forgot......we've got 'Iron Man' coming too. Interesting casting choice of Robert Downey Jr. Not sure what to expect there.
