Peavey HP Special...

OK, so I go to the website use their cute little program to mock up "my guitar" for build. Then you print it out, take it to your local Peavey dealer pay them then wait 90-120 days.

My question is has any regular Joe like me gone through the process? I went to my Peavey dealer and that had never taken an order and didn't have the slightest idea what the fuck to do. Scared me off!

Anybody done this? Has anyone played these guitars? It's a lot of jack to lay down for an instrument I've never seen or played for that matter.

The HP Special was getting quite the buzz when they first introduced it, but some recent reports have suggested Peavey was having a hard time delivering quality--like the frets weren't leveled before shipping and wiring was done all wrong. (Some recent owners mentioned these things on the Peavey guitar forum.) Peavey has also always been notorious for late delivery. So that 90-120 days thing could just be a dream.

I own 2 HP Special Customs. I bought them from Geoff at rockandrollweekend.com. Mine have no issues. They are both top notch. Just so you know Geoff is still waiting for some of the guitars he ordered over a year and a half ago. However, I have also heard that some people have ordered guitars from the custom shop and got them in 3 months.

I am sure many dealers have never taken an order for the Peavey Custom Shop. Less than 500 Custom Wolfgangs were made and probably less than half of them were made for customer orders. I know they make custom bass guitars but I am not sure how that process works. Also Peavey just put of the Custom Shop link for the HP Special on their site a month so I am very sure that if you take a Peavey Custom order to most dealers that they won't know what to do with it.

Most of the quality issues I have read about are on the production models.
