Question.."How long does it take?"
How long will it take before Dave gets fired or leaves VH. Think about it ..
1978-1984= Daves fronts the band, than gets fired or leaves.
1986-1996= Sam is fired, or leaves the band.
1996= Dave comes back for the 2 songs off "Greatest Hits"
1998-1998= Gary is in, and gets fired ASAP
2004= Sammy is back on board for the 2004 Reunion Tour .. than gets booted off.
2007 = Dave is back
2008= ?????????
What a way to wreck a Legacy! .....1984-1996 is where it should have ended!James

Well, you can back-date Dave's involvement at least 2-3 more years before the release of the first album, and Gary was on for more than just a year, but the point is not lost... I think everyone is hoping that Dave gets a few years out of this, and at least one new album... I love Dave, but "Diamond Dave" and the tribute cd were a little rough for my taste...

There will be problems in the studio if they try to write and record. If there's a full-blown producer in charge, that might change how things run. But if it's Ed's studio with Ed producing, we won't be hearing a new Dave-on-vocals VH album.

Maybe they should do another covers album. That way, Ed take the song and make it his own and there's no arguing over lyrics.

i don't think there's gonna be an album. If all goes well they'll tour, record a couple of songs and add it to some stuff in the vault. Tour again. Record a couple songs and add it to some stuff in the vault. Tour again. Tour again.
These guys stopped working the second Gary left/was fired. I know most of you hated him but he was the bands last chance to remain a working band.

SOME VH LINKS CLASSICS
"Sammy is fat, Dave is bald, Mike is next in line to be the Pope, Eddie is a drunk, Wolfie is fat, Gary is gay, CVH is VH, Mike is VH, Sammy can outsing Dave on a tequilla hangover, Eddie is a meth head, How Many Say I is the worst VH song ever, Up for Breakfast is a close second, Dave was horrible at radio and everybody hates the assless chaps.
Ok I think that covers everything." Ziggysmalls
"I sense that some of our newer passengers may be nervous due to the sudden turbulence. Please be seated, this is simply a normal part of the periodic ride.
I didn't say we'll get to the destination, but until Alex comes out a says what a complete waste of carbon DLR is, we're still climbing, so strap yourselves in.
Those of you who have been on this ride before, the hottie in the mini will be around shortly with your drinks......." Red

Tour again, record, tour again, record, tour again... So they'll all be 64 when this "new" album comes out?
You are right that the working band VH ended upon Gary Cherone's dismissal. I would have given VH III take 2 a chance if it meant the band would keep writing/recording/touring.

If they are gonna record a new album, they shouldn't do it in 5150, they should do it in a neutral studio with a producer, Eddie just tries to take too much control in 5150 and VH3 and the porn tracks is what we get.
BTW Dave looks great in the new band photo, l hope he keeps that look up.
Scott.

As silly as it sounds, I think EVH will tolerate DLR as long as Wolfgang wants him in the band!
If this line-up lasts long enough to produce an album, they'll probably wind up getting Glenn Ballard.
If WVH enjoys the older stuff, the chances are pretty good any new stuff will be in that same vein. Maybe someone should turn that kid on to some of the early unreleased demos that have been floating around.

I personally don't think there will ever be another VH record. Ed's approach to recording changed around 1990 in a way that made it difficult to complete projects. Each of the first eight records was recorded rapidly. IMO, that's how most great records are made. But FUCK took a year, and although I love that album, I think it could have sounded less labored if there were less overdubbing. And I remember reading that the album could have taken even longer than a year. I recollect reading that WB called in Ted Templeman, and he went in and told EVH to stop screwing around and finish the record, that they weren't making a double album. Then Bruce Fairbairn whipped the guys into finishing Balance in four months. But he died, and 3 took the band well over a year to record. Subsequently, Sammy has said that the music for the 3 new songs in 2004 took a disproportionately long time to record. I believe him. In "It's About Time" and "Learning To See" in particular, there is too much busyness, too much overdubbing. So, it's been nearly 12 years since VH "banged out" a record under the supervision of an excellent producer. It's been nearly 19 years since they "banged out" a record in a reasonably short period of time themselves. If it takes VH at least a year to make an album given their current recording methodology, another record will never happen, because these guys are too volatile personalities to stand each other for that long. A new album depends on the guys recovering their ability to go into the studio and crank out an album in a few weeks to a few months. This requires a drive, dedication, stability and mentality that I think EVH has lost.

Its a long way off to start thinking about music but if they can stay civil towards each other here is what I want them to do. I said this about 8 months again but it still applies.
Record away from 5150 and go to wherever this place is
Get Ted and Donn back to produce the songs.
Tell them they only have 14 days to record. Buckcherry's last album was recorded in 15 days so its still is possible to do this on a short schedule.
Try and get Mike back but if its not going to work then go ahead with Teen Wolf. Any music is better than no music unless its HMSI.
Tell Eddie no sustainer, no neck pickup and no effects out outside of a Phaser and Flanger
Buy 30 cases of Schlitz Malt Liquor. If it was good enough for the boys in the 70's its good enough for Wolfgang now.
Only 3 overdubs are allowed.
