    Default Frontmen leaving bands

It's too bad... I liked Audioslave, caught the "inaugural" tour in a club in NYC... not too crazy about RATM and The Cult... Cornell's other solo cd was just ok for my tastes. It's too bad this "supergroup" couldn't last... I thought they would.

    Frontmen leaving bands

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Two bands -- one a recent formation, the other with roots dating back to the 1960s -- are losing their frontmen.

Chris Cornell announced he is leaving Audioslave, citing "irresolvable personality conflicts as well as musical differences."

"I wish the other three members nothing but the best in all of their future endeavors," Cornell said Thursday in a statement.

Elsewhere, Ian Astbury has moved on from playing in a band with members of the Doors to relaunch his '80s hard rock group The Cult, the singer said Thursday. The Doors band, called Riders on the Storm, also featured original Doors members Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger.

"I have learned a great deal from the both of them, and it certainly has expanded my abilities as a performer," Astbury said of the '60s legends. "This has been a difficult decision to make but I feel I would be holding them back as well as myself if I did not depart at this time."

Astbury, a singer heavily influenced by the late Doors frontman Jim Morrison, will now focus on "relaunching" The Cult with guitarist Billy Duffy.

"I have decided to move on and focus on my own music and legacy," Astbury, 44, said in a statement e-mailed by The Cult's publicist Todd Brodginski.

Riders on the Storm, according to group manager Tom Vitorino, will continue to perform and is looking at a short list of potential vocalists, Brodginski said.

The group just finished a sold-out tour of Europe, Brodginski said.

Britain's The Cult gained fame in the '80s with such hits as "She Sells Sanctuary," "Revolution" and "Rain."

Cornell, 42, a former singer and guitarist with Seattle grunge band Soundgarden, said he'll release a solo album May 1 called "Carry On." He also co-owns a restaurant in Paris.

Audioslave was formed in 2001 and comprised of Cornell and three former members of Rage Against the Machine. The group recorded three albums and performed in Havana in 2005.

Meanwhile, Rage Against the Machine planned to reunite to perform at this year's Coachella Valley Arts and Music Festival, which runs April 27 through 29. Tom Morello, the lead guitarist of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave, has said the concert is a one-shot deal.

LOL......the guy joins The Doors, gets replaced without being told ( at least according to him )...and now is set to go on tour with one of THE greatest rock bands in the solar system, just as that Doors project falls apart.

That's gotta make living with Sting a little easier when you think of it in those terms, yo?

I never liked Audioslave at all. I am glad they are history.

I am upset Sammy left VH, I thought he was back for good. That's what he said anyway when he re-joined them.. I understand why he quit now though, especially after seeing Eddie replace Mikey with his 15 year old boy!

I am also not happy about is Steve Augeri being fired from Journey. I don't think Soto can sing half as good as Augeri. I didn't like Soul Sirkus much either. I am not a fan of Journey without Perry or Augeri singing.
Right Now you're reading my post!

I can't stand rap....people who can't sing do rap....you can sing rebellion as well as talk it....Hitler would have been in a rap band...

Soul Sirkus is kinda ho-hum for me too. I saw the Soto-fronted band on their last tour with Def Leppard and it sounded decent. Not bad, but not as earth-shattering as one would expect from a Journey show.

I had just gotten used to Augeri as the new vocalist too. Wondering now why they can't just bury the hatchet with Perry and have him back since all these other 80's bands seem to be getting their shit straight......well, some of them anyway.

How about getting Rollie back into the fold too since we're dreamin!

I think the "slightly" higher $$$'s would help anybody deal with Mr. Jazz/Adult Contemporary... I sure hope they don't "reinterpret" the old tunes...

I'm wondering what Mr. Sumner's motivation is for all this... obviously the money, but he was so successful post-Police... I had interned for a guy at Prudential when in college a "few" years back (13 years? my memory fades...), and he had told me that back then the Stinger's assets alone were valued at about $70 million (the guy I interned for used to go skiing in Colorado and had met him in Teluride; there was at least one project that he was working on that included Sting, Madonna and a few others as potential investors - I don't believe it panned out, it was a fashion-themed cable channel)... clueless college kid that I was at the time, I actually took a call from Miles Copeland (Sting/Police manager) on one occassion - pleasant enough guy... I'm no insider... my ties ended with my internship (it would've come in handy right about now)!
