    How About A Peaceful Thread

So let's do something totally innocuous and unrelated to this "reunion" thing.

What song has his best backups?

What song has his best bass playing?

Good thread. I have always thought that VHII had Mike's best bass work. The bass lines on Beautiful Girls and Outta Love Again are great examples of what Mike brought to the table bass-wise. Not "shredding" or flamboyant, but they were vital parts of the songs. Mike's playing on that disc has soul.

I'd probably go with Fair Warning as his best bass work.

For some reason I just love the backing vocals of "Top Of The World," and a lot of that is his voice.

    Cool forum idea, B.

Best bass playing? Push Comes to Shove, Dirty Movies, hell, Fair Warning in general.

Best vocals: Hear About it Later, Humans Being

    Mike, you're the man.

Most of the stuff on the first three albums feature my favorite backup vocals from Mike.

As for bass playing, I'd go the first four albums. Seems after Fair Warning he wasn't getting the chance to contribute as much as he did on those first four albums. At least on record, that is...
In and out. I didn't even make that pun on purpose.

There's a part of Poundcake that I always dig, and it's just Mike thumping the shit out of the E. It's the beginning of the last chorus after Ed's little break....I just think it sounds so fucking cool....THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP

I absolutely hate this song, but I'd say if there was one highlight it would be Mike's vocals. Damn, its incredible, especially the "na-na-na-na-na" part at the end.

In A Simple Rhyme too. Just so melodic. I also loved his live vocal additions to "Little Guitars."

You know, I LOVE listening to the "Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers" cover on the Sao Paulo '83 DVD, just because Mike sings half of it. Damn, thats a great cover!
