More than 20 NASCAR drivers will attend Fontana Racefest at California Speedway on Feb. 22

More than 20 of NASCAR's most popular drivers will be attending the Fontana Racefest at California Speedway on Thursday, Feb. 22.

The event, which offers free admission, will run from 5 to 9 p.m. at the new Opportunity, California FanZone and will include a driver autograph session, musical entertainment by Fontana's own Sammy Hagar, a live auction, and fun for children with live interaction displays, inflatable obstacle courses, and an inflatable stockcar ride.

Some of the drivers who are scheduled to be at Racefest are Bobby Labonte, Kurt Busch, Carl Edwards, Kevin Harvick, Greg Biffle, Robby Gordon, David Ragan, David Stremme, Ryan Newman, Clint Bowyer, Elliott Sadler, JJ Yeley, Ken Schrader, Kyle Busch, Jamie McMurray, and Ward Burton.

The autograph session will begin with driver introductions on the main stage and is scheduled to end at 8 p.m.

The finale of the evening will be a show by Hagar, the former Van Halen lead singer who is being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year. Hagar's performance is set for 8:40 p.m.

Hagar is also scheduled to give a concert on Sunday, Feb. 25 at the speedway prior to the NASCAR Nextel Cup Auto Club 500 race.

Autographed NASCAR memorabilia, including a guitar autographed by Hagar, will be up for bid during the live action, scheduled to begin after the driver autograph session on the main stage.

Race fans can also big early at www.kfrog.com to take a ride with Kurt Busch, or a meet and greet with Jeff Gordon or Richard Petty at California Speedway during the race weekend.

Leddy Venegas of WhoWon.com reports: Fontana's own legendary rocker Sammy Hagar will return home and serve as Grand Marshal of the Stater Bros. 300 NASCAR Busch Series on February 24, 2007 at California Speedway. In addition to giving the drivers command to "Start you engines," Hagar will rev up fans when he performs Thursday night at the free "Fontana Racefest" and again Sunday prior to the Auto Club 500 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race live on FOX.

"Sammy Hagar is a local icon and his legendary song 'I Can't Drive 55' couldn't be a more perfect fit for NASCAR. His free performance at Fontana Race Fest is a great way to kick off our most action-packed, highly entertaining race weekend ever," said track president Gillian Zucker. Hagar's appearance and performances are all part of NASCAR's West Coast premiere for the 2007 season.

Hey Redheads!

I’m headed home to Fontana for a big NASCAR weekend and in-between plates of my Mom’s Italian home cooking I’ll be down at California Speedway on Thursday February 22nd playing for the Fontana Racefest Fanzone which is an outta sight afternoon and evening of checking out Cars and Drivers with my show and a big fireworks display to cap it off.
I also get to be the Grand Marshall on Saturday for the Stater Bros 300 and who knows maybe they’ll let me drive the pace car! (they might not be able to keep up with me if they do).
Last of all I’m going to play in front of the grandstand on Sunday for the Autoclub 500 and if you can’t make it down be sure to tune into FOX at noon pacific time for the pre race festivities and you’ll be sure to see me there. This is going to be a great weekend and these guys will NOT be driving 55!

how about sammy live on ESPN giving them the command to start their engines! Man that was the best rendition on "Gentlemen Start your engines" I've ever heard! Sammy kicks ass! Being a huuuge nascar fan, i would love for him to broaden his perspective and spread his racing program to nascar. That would be awesome! after all... their is a race in mexico next weekend! I'd like to see a "Cabo Wabo 300" or something!
