Mother accused of trying to drown children in bathtub

DENVER – A young mother was charged with attempted murder Wednesday after prosecutors say she tried to drown her children.

Brenda Hernandez, 24, is charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder. She also faces charges of child abuse.

Denver Police went to the 3100 block of West Mexico Avenue for a welfare check on Saturday afternoon and when officers arrived, they say Hernandez had undressed herself and her three children and was trying to drown them in the bathtub.

"When they (the officers) arrived, they knocked on the door. At first they didn't get an answer. A short time later, a woman burst through the door not wearing any clothes in front of the officers," said Lynn Kimbrough with the Denver District Attorney's Office.

Police say Hernandez's 7-year-old son was trying to pull her off one of the other children, to stop her. Officers intervened and saved the children.

The other two children are 2 and 3-year-old girls.

Yeah, I dunno. I know plenty of people who's mothers were 17 and never tried to kill them.

I wish it was that simple.
