    Default DirecTV/DVD player question

I got DirecTV a couple of months ago and love it to death. The only problem is that I don't know where/how to hook up my DVD player. I got rid of my VCR and don't particularily need another one. I always used the Line 1 channel on my VCR to watch DVDs. How do I watch them now with just the DVD player and the DVR receiver?

G3--I don't really know what your setup looks like, so I couldn't say for sure. But my DVD player is running directly to my TV--not through my Direct TV receiver. Hopefully you have enough inputs for all the components you want to hook up.

In my case, I have an HDMI cable running from my Direct TV to my TV so I can get the highest quality HD pictures. Then I have special AV cables running from my DVD player to my TV.

If you really want good feedback from people who eat, sleep and breathe this stuff, visit the AVS forum at http://www.avsforum.com/ . Great stuff there.

    Good luck!

I don't have HDTV, so no special cables.

My line runs through the Direct TV box, to the VCR to the TV. The DVD player is plugged into the VCR. If you have AV inputs on the front of your TV, then you can plug the DVD player into there.

I also bought a box at Radio Shack that allows me to plug everything in to it, so I don't have a bunch of cables hanging out of my TV.

I truely feel like an idiot now. I found the RCA-style plugs on the back of the TV, plugged in the player and pushed the TV/Video button.

    Doh!

Yep, smart people usually over-think the problem.

At least you didn't do what I did, which was return the first DVD player I bought because I couldn't figure out how to plug it in, never bothering to check the VCR. I went another six months and bought at least 20 more movies on VHS before I figured that one out.

    You're ahead of me.

Ouch. I hate VHS now that I have a DVD player and a DVR. If I had a digital TV I'd get HD DVR.
