What do people think of Livin' It Up?

I did a search but couldn't find any discussions about this CD, which surprised me.

I finally got around to listening and I like it. Even though he keeps hammering away at the 'beach party/drinking' theme songs I still don't mind. There only seems to be a few duds and overall I really dig the vibe of this album. I read a review that called him the new rock version of Jimmy Buffett and if you've heard this album you'd have to agree. I think that's a compliment to Sam.

Like others have said in other threads, I think the best songs on it are:

Living On A Coastline
One Sip
I Like This Bar
Sam I Am
Let Me Take You There
Mexico
Halfway To Memphis

Can't complain about pulling 7 good tunes from an album.

No doubt if you combine these with a handful from Marching To Mars, Ten 13, and Red Voodoo you've got enough for a greatest hits just from his years after VH.

This album takes a few listens before it begins to grow on you. I like the vibe of the album, but it's not one of my favorite Sammy albums. I like Sammy way more when he's rocking the joint as opposed to the laid back feeling of this album. With that said, let's open up a bottle of Cabo in anticipation of the first rocking CHICKENFOOT record.

It's A great Listen when driving down a long winding road in the hot summer sun, with the windows or top down!!!!

It took me a few listens too to really grasp it. I like it overall, but as mentioned before I prefer the harder side of Sammy. Some good time tunes though.

I like it. Probably his best album in awhile. It is different from anything else that he has done though.

Mexico is a great track, Sailin's cool. Only complaint, couple too many covers on the disc.

I bought it when it first came out. As i do all sammy albums. I embrace everything the man does musically.I know people may not get the beach vibe ,or wonder where in the heck it came from, but sam said in an interview that he wanted to bring a little bit of the feel of the cabo wabo cantina and the area itself to his fans.

Hang in there if you didn't really care for this album. I have a feeling he may be getting back to a more " rocking" album for his next one.

It took me a few listens, but overall I like the feel of the record. I made a compilation recently of all his Wabos stuff, and I reckon a best of this year would be good with 2 new tracks.

I want Sam to do a ROCK record again. I'm fully aware and understanding of his pseudo-Buffett persona, but I'm a little bored with it. "Sam I Am" is a fun tune, but little else on this record grew on me. Time to bust out the amps, maybe even ditch the Wabos and get back his band from the VOA days.

Enjoyed N4S a little more than this one.

I think the new album when it comes out will rock. Don't think he will do Livin it up Part Deux.

Sammy has stayed friends with everyone that he as recorded with( w/ the exception of Edward i guess.) So jamming with the old crew is always a possibility.

The chickenfoot project could slow down any solo release though. He has stated that he wants to use the B-Day bash as the starting point of sorts for his touring in 2008.

If the chickenfoot project gives us new material then do you think they will do a mini tour? Sammy lives to play live so that would be sweet to see them in maybe a theater setting.

Why would that surprise you?

It's sold only 22,000 copies, and that's after touring with Mike and fresh from the publicity of the Van Hagar reunion.

He's the best kind of troll, the ones that spend their free time researching Sammy stats and sales and polls and work up point-by-point pie charts in their bedrooms just to slag those dastardly Hagar fans.

I love the guys that know more about Sammy's business than Sam himself.

If only Dave had such dedicated detractors.
