Will This Tour Turn You Off Of Future Tours With The REAL VH?
With the tour that is happening now with Wolfgang and not Michael Anthony as it should be, has this decision left a bad taste in your mouth with Van Halen permanetly.
That even if down the road in 2007/2008, they kiss and make up with Michael and decide to do a classic Van Halen tour, you just can't support Van Halen anymore. Or will you kiss and make up with Van Halen and support them during the classic Van Halen tour you were expecting in the first place.
What say you?

Well...
let's see...
I had 11 years with the lying hair-dyer...
a brief moment in the sun...followed by a year and a half with the cross dresser....
followed by several years of no news is good news...
followed by 2004...a revisit with Bette...
followed by Porn Music...
If that hasn't stopped me from wanting to see Classic Van Halen...
why would this?EUAS

The "cross dresser"
LOL!
Poor Gary Cherone. He was a victim of circumstance.

I had assumed that for a lot of people, the Mikey thing was the final straw.

People may say that this or that is the final straw, but the fact they're here in the first place saying that makes me think otherwise. Those that have truly given up on the band probably aren't bothering to post here.
In short, I can't imagine much at all happening in 2007 that would dissuade people from seeing a full CVH Reunion down the line.
What I do think has happened though, is VH has shot their wad as far as reunions go. This was the big opportunity to cash in. This tour would dilute the effect of a full CVH Reunion next year or later.

They would probably have to do some 3+ hour Sammy and Dave tour with Mikey aboard as well. Hmmm, do you think that will be the final card Eddie plays? If what you say is true and they have blown their load, a Dave/Sammy tour can be the only thing that would attract huge attention. What do you think?

That probably would be the only move left. In 2004, VH reuites with Sammy Hagar for a tour. Then in 2007 Ed and Al reunite with Dave for another tour. I think that's about as far as they can stretch the reunion angle. It just wouldn't work in 2008 or 2009 to say it's Dave again, but this time with Mike. Sure people here would go crazy, but the general public might only buy the reunion/nostalgia bit the first time through. KISS never repeated the numbers they did in 1996.
If VH has become an oldies act, if there's not going to be viable new music that will attract new fans, about the only thing left would be the Sam/Dave tour.
Unless they want to play smaller and smaller venues.

That is the ONE thing Dave-related that I would never go and see...

for me it could go both ways.
If this tour goes well it may actually create even more interest for him in a real reunion tour. The main problem I had in 2004 was Ed, if Ed plays well this summer I might forget the disaster that was 2004. If the band sounds good with a kid on bass and then tours with Michael one could think "the sky's the limit".
If this tour is a disaster it would sour me on future tours. That would be back-to-back bad experiences for me, I'm not sure if I would be interested in a third go round.

IIRC James Brown or Jim Decola confirmed the story of Ed being able to identify the construction of the cab. Conversely, Jim debunked the story of Ed chucking a guitar across a Peavey boardroom...
