This should start some good discussion:

DiMaggio and Ripken should be 1 & 2. Maybe I'm biased, but I feel that if you put 1000 people in a room and then gave them all 22 names and asked "what were their streaks?" the only 2 that people would consistently remember are DiMaggio and Ripken. Hell, I just went through it 5 minutes ago and I can't remember what Tiger Woods' or UCLA's streaks were! Maybe the Miami Dolphins, though I never think of the perfect season as a "streak".

I would tend to agree with that reasoning, Billy. Those probably are two of the most famous streaks out there. Favre's consecutive games streak gets a lot of attention as well.

    I think DiMaggio's streak should be #1.

I think Ripken's is the most impressive. I would lean more towards Favre due to the beating QB's take but I think it's inevitable that Manning will take that record from Favre before he is done. They say Manning hasn't even missed a fucking PRACTICE! We're talking PRACTICE!(sorry....had to throw in the Iverson line) By no means is shortstop an easy position and they take their beatings too. My vote....I am going with Ripken. Nobody will touch that record.

My vote would be for Marciano's undefeated reign as Heavyweight Champion.

While I do respect records like DiMaggio's, Gretzky's and Rice's, it is only one hit, point or catch per game. It's also a product of being on a good team. With the Yankees, Oilers and 49ers of those eras, you simply couldn't double cover a Rice or Gretz or pitch around a joltin' Joe. Even Gretzky ranks the Oiler's Cup wins and his 50 goals in 39 games as bigger accomplishments.

For the most impressive team streak, I'd go with Arsenal's undefeated season in 2004. With all due respect to Miami Dolphins fans, 17 games does not compare to 38 without a loss. Going undefeated for an entire season and 49 games in total, in one of the most competitive sports leagues in the world, was an amazing accomplishment. Up the Gunners!

The first thing I thought of was Favre's streak. I think DiMaggio should be #1...what's the closest anyone's come to his record? 44? Also, Byron Nelson's record is EXTREMELY impressive. Being a huge golf fan, it seems to me that is record that will not be broken unless the PGA allows Tiger Woods current attempt to count towards the record. Nelson won 11 consecutive tournaments that he played in. Woods has won 7 consecutive PGA tournaments that he's been in, but has also lost multiple tournaments in between those 7 consecutive wins on other circuits such as the European PGA tour. Woods himself doesn't consider the streak to still be alive.

I was thinking that as well, but boxing is so easily corrupted...How many of those guys Marciano beat got paid to lay down? I don't know if any did, but everyone knows boxing can be very dirty business...

I'm not going with Ripken or Favre...Yeah, those were powerhouse streaks, but were the streaks always best for the team? I say no...

I'm going with Wooden and UCLA...88 games with new college kids coming in every year?? That's pure sickness! John Wooden may be the greatest mind basketball has ever seen...

Close second is Boston's 8 in a row...

In summary, I take team domination over individual domination...

As streaks go, I tend to look at if they are even reachable anymore....

That said, I would have to go with Dimaggios and Bostons streak of 8 championships in a row.

If a baseball player even gets close to 20 games with a hit, the media jumps all over it and I think the pressure just would be overwhelming.

And 8 titles in a row?....that is just unbelievable......if a team wins 2 in row, we start talking dynasty....

    As far as Ripkin......over-rated.

I know that I'm probably in the minority here but......it's baseball....not work.
I have worked with people that never called in sick.....in 20 years....real jobs too, not playing baseball.....getting up at 5am and busting their ass for $8 an hour.....I had to hear the media saying shit like "Cal is a hard hat and lunch-pail type of guy".......no, my Dad was a "hard hat, lunch-pail guy....because he wore a hard hat and took a lunch-pail to work everyday.....

bottom line....Cal Ripkin managed to show up.....for seasonal part time job.....
