The question of which Version sold the most units
is here:
Van Halen: 10.3 Million
Van Halen II: 5.7 Million
WACF: 4.3 Million
Fair Warning: 3.4 Million
Diver Down: 4.5 Million
1984: 10 Million
5150: 6.9 Million
OU812: 4.4 Million
F.U.C.K.: 3.8 Million
Right Here, Right Now: 2.5 Million
Balance: 3.9 Million
Best of Volume 1: 3.5 Million
Dave wins! And even though you have to combine
records, tapes and cd's for the first 6 releases,
half of the those sales still out sell the Van Hagar version...
Anyone care? We have to talk about something during these quiet moments...

I agree, Dave wins, and his prize is a first row seat outside the gates of 5150, a bucket to gather his drool, and a stack of looseleaf paper to write his plea on.

OU812 sold 43.4 million copies, cause Sammy said so.

YO, so what? All Van Halen kicks my ass! I'd go the distance with either Dave, Sam or Gary in my corner.

Numbers never tell the whole story - that is a standard that sports writers live by, or at least try to. Otherwise, we all know that David Lee Roth was the best singer in Van Halen - end of story. What Sammy Hagar did was extraordinary being that he filled the shoes of someone who had such amazing charisma and talent and this only adds to the aura of DLR. We ALL know that DLR was the best and the 1974-1985 years of Van Halen will never be duplicated so just leave it at that. It's like JFK being shot dead in 1963- pure fact and pure tragedy. We know this and hopefully there will be a future. As far as AxeSlinger84 is concerned, I hope the future consists of DLR in some way, shape or form.

And how many of those first 6 albums were sold because of new fans discovering Van Halen during the Hagar era??
In addition to sales, don't forget the count of how many Number one singles came off of the Roth and Hagar releases, and how many number one albums the Roth and Hagar releases had.
Like it or not, when it comes down to it all sales of all releases are VAN HALEN sales!
P.S.
No mention of 3?Life is something that happens when your planning something else.

Wow, it's a damn good thing album sales do not equate with quality. If that was the case, Fair Warning would easily be the worst studio album of those you listed.
That good enough of a reverse engineering Klingon photon math exploder calculator for you, BOR(e)D?"Just once I'd like to do the right thing and not get punished for it."

To hear people like you talk, not many. After all, if those lightweight Hallmark card induced cheese ballads and lyrical felonies about phone sex hotlines were so "superior" to the greatest American rock band in history, why would you want to bore yourselves with those "icky" Van HALEN albums?
In addition to sales, don't forget the count of how many Number one singles came off of the Roth and Hagar releases, and how many number one albums the Roth and Hagar releases had.
Number one singles...
How many number one singles do the Rolling Stones have? Probably not many. I don't think it's hurt them any, after 40 years either.
Now on the other hand, count up all the #1 singles by every boyband, rap group, and silicone-enhanced Mickey Mouse Club slut puppy in the last 3 years, and tell me which one of them will be remembered a decade from now.
Why is it that rock stations play "Panama", "Unchained", "Hot For Teacher", and "Running With The Devil" on a daily basis, but do not play "Cheese Walks In", "How Do I know When It's Cheese", "Can't Stop Cheesing You" or even "Right Now", all of which were probably # 1 hits?
It's because in the end, trendy bullcrap doesn't mean jack shit. It's the quality that holds up over time. At one time the Monkees were selling far more albums than the Beatles, and Jimi Hendrix was their opening act. Thirty Five years later, does anyone think the Monkees were better than the Beatles or Hendrix?
Like it or not, when it comes down to it all sales of all releases are VAN HALEN sales!
In name only. Van HALEN and Van Hagar were two entirely different entities.
P.S.
No mention of 3?
What's to mention? It was a complete and total failure by "Van Halen" standards. Even the "FUCK Live" album did better, and it was a joke!Eat Us And Smile

Mainstream Rock Chart doesn't mean a damn thing.
Its when a song is in the top ten of Billboard's overall (top 100) that makes the $$$$$.
There were many VH songs that made it here. But, "Jump" is the only real #1 song.
