Default Comparing 2004 to 2007 PR Wise

Well if you want instant proof that VH fucked up look at the hype. You guys remember in late February/ early March of 2004 when the forums were so busy it was damn near impossible to get on here. Remember when "It's About Time" hit the internet, and we were all scrambling to stream it or download it?
My point is that no matter what you think of Mikey or Wolfgang, or Eddie's state, there's no denying that this tour announcement is truly pathetic, and will not inspire causal fans to buy tickets. A little pithy message on the official site, headed by the Van Hagar logo from 2004, seriously guys. Remember Dave complaining in his book about how the 1996 stuff was so poorly packaged? Um Dave, why don't you try and explain this one? Where was the press conference, and Ed, if it's such magic then where are our new tracks? We aren't even entitled to that? You're joking right? No?....Wow, it's going to take some amazing performances to make up for this. Keep your fingers crossed.

We all know David can not do or say anything if he wants to do this. It seems that he has agreed to this roll so that we have one last chance to see him and Ed play together again - he even has to accept Wolfie being there.

This is all Ed and Al's show. So I dont think anyone can blaim David for being quite. I am sure it is eating him also.

Dave is a hired gun, nothing more. They need him to sell tickets.

Unfortunately the problem with the 2004 still remains in the band in 2007, Ed. Mike and Sam were probably the best parts of that tour, they actually WANTED to be there.

I don't believe that the promoters of this tour will be paying a reputed $1m/show and not let Dave be Dave regardless of what Eddie wants. We'll see....

I wasn't around here for the 2004 tour, but I sure as hell don't remember any hype. Outside of that Westwood One show they did, that's the only time I ever heard about the show (excluding the internet). I remember hearing maybe a few radio ads. I just couldn't believe how little effort there was in promoting it.
A DJ at a radio station emailed me the new tunes, after I'd called and requested them to be played on the air and he said "they're too heavy, we can't play them". I was stunned when I heard them. Too heavy? It was cool of the guy to send them to me by email -- with a note attached that said don't ever tell anybody where you got these
    SOME VH LINKS CLASSICS

"Sammy is fat, Dave is bald, Mike is next in line to be the Pope, Eddie is a drunk, Wolfie is fat, Gary is gay, CVH is VH, Mike is VH, Sammy can outsing Dave on a tequilla hangover, Eddie is a meth head, How Many Say I is the worst VH song ever, Up for Breakfast is a close second, Dave was horrible at radio and everybody hates the assless chaps.
Ok I think that covers everything." Ziggysmalls

"I sense that some of our newer passengers may be nervous due to the sudden turbulence. Please be seated, this is simply a normal part of the periodic ride.
I didn't say we'll get to the destination, but until Alex comes out a says what a complete waste of carbon DLR is, we're still climbing, so strap yourselves in.
Those of you who have been on this ride before, the hottie in the mini will be around shortly with your drinks......." Red

What the hell is wrong with DAVE? Does he really need money that bad? And no way he can keep quiet. What good is DLR if his mouth is closed without any classic DAVE sound bites. Seriously, he stated for the longest time that he would not do a reunion unless all 4 members were involved. Now he will be singing with a high school student. Still can't believe this is all happening!

Their PR sucks. Or maybe we just haven't seen the big PR machine in action yet...now that Ed's girlfriend is his PR woman too.

Eddie and Dave need to start doing the talk shows now. They don't have to play...but just do Letterman and talk about how cool the summer tour is going to be...maybe show some material of them screwing around in the studio or rehearsing.

If they are going to release the new "Best Of"...put three live never before heard Dave tracks. They also need to include at least one brand new, kick ass tune. And sorry to say, but that one tune needs to be "hands fall of the clock" good, and sorry but a little radio friendly too. It's gotta get people talking.

They need to release a live DVD in the middle of the tour. And offer live sound-board recordings right after the show like the Who did when I saw them two years ago.

Radio, TV, pay-per-view...they need to make this an event!

    (Don't worry...they won't though)

No I meant Ed, the problem with the 2004 tour was Ed....and that problem still exists in 2007. Al's playing was fine in 2004. The weak link that whole tour was Ed, and there is nothing that leads me to believe he won't be again this time. And now he has to carry his kid, musically and vocally.

I agree 100%. The band did very little to promote the 2004 tour. I think the best PR this band has ever done was during the 1995 tour.

so far- and it's only been one business day since the announcement, it's on par with 2004. But that can still change, it's very early in the game.
Wolfie is not Mike, but he's more than ok.
Mike is gone, but not forgotten. They played some amazing shows from 2007-2015; some people are in denial about it.
