Michael Anthony had it coming?

I am a friend of the band.

I loved Mikey as much as anyone. You cannot replace his background vocals.

But the ironic thing about all the Eddie bashing is this: Michael CONSISTENTLY voted down the idea of Dave having any part of Van Halen again. Everytime there was a vote, it went something like this:

Alex: Dave can come back
Eddie: On the fence, actually. Voted for Dave's return in 96 and again several other times.
Michael: Dave is a no go.

This concert tour would NEVER happen if Mike was still in the band.

It would also not happen if it wasn't for Wolfie. I happen to know Wolfie was the MAIN reason this all is happening now. The kid was psyched about the ROTH era stuff and kept pestering his dad and uncle to get Dave back.

So Brett and all of you other neigh-sayers- just lighten up, will ya? Nobody says this concert has to be 1984. This is a DIFFERENT incarnation of the band, no doubt...

BUT PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, concentrate on the positives, will ya?

Eddie and the boys are going to play 20+ hits from a fantastic era! Roth and Eddie will be on stage again. Now have a beer, maybe a shot, and have a good fuckin time while you listen to Eruption, I'm the One, Unchained, Beautiful Girls, Secrets, Hot for Teacher and Spanish Fly.

I have a pretty hard time believing that if Ed and Al wanted to bring Dave back, they would even give Mike a vote. Further, if Mike were still in the band and Ed and Al told him they were going to bring Dave back, I have a hard time believing that Mike would quit over it.

Somehow, I don't think Michael Anthony was the stumbling block to bringing Dave back.

I know I remember Mike saying he was open to Roth coming back, but, unfortunately, things just couldn't get ironed out between all parties involved, and it was eventually squashed. After all that, then Mike was all about "it's not happening with Dave". Dude, you make it sound as though Mike was the only one who vetoed anything dealing with Roth's return, and that's just not so.

Eddie also thinks Roth is God Damn prick at times, and mostly has voted against him. Eddie also has a side to him that LOVES Dave and everything he does. Mostly this is when Ed is drinking.

I will say this, though: Michael Anthony may have said one thing to the fans, but behind closed doors he was adament about Dave not returning. Now, of course, this makes sense because he's always been tight with Sammy, even more so in the last 10 years.

And yes, believe it or not, the band has been very democratic over the years....they do like to vote on band matters, and who the lead singer is definitely fell under that category. I can also tell you this...one other person who was ALWAYS against Roth coming back was Valerie.

Well, I am very close to one of the band members.

I can say this reunion was almost going to be ready to go last November, but as always, the lawyers got in the middle and started fucking everything up.

I've heard Wolfie play. Think Billy Sheehan. I believe the kid is a fucking natural. And if you think about it, he's grown up with music his whole life and has the genes. His singing is not bad, either. Sounds more like Johnny Lang.

I know the band is definitely considering piping in background vocals and also having two chicks sing harmonies. The guy from Night Ranger is gonna do the keys.

I will also say this: Eddie is fucking totally jazzed about all this. He REALLY, REALLY digs that fact that he gets to play with his brother and Wolfie and is totally pumped to play the old stuff for the fans.

And guess what? Even after the divorce, Eddie DOES NOT NEED THE MONEY.

I think you are will be surprised on this tour. Ed is playing with a fever reminiscent of the III tour. Alex is healthier than he's been in years. And yes, Dave has a self-imposed gag order right now. He knows he can't afford to say something to fuck things up this time until the tour dates have been announced.
