Atomic Punks\Lances Cathedral
I just saw the Punks last night at the Marquee here in town,
I was really impressed with the guitarists EVH vibe, but then he played cathedral and well, butchered isn't quite the word but it sounded like crap,
he was using a sequencer instead of a delay and volume swells and he ruined it, anyone else heard him do this and agree maybe ??Last edited by rolsguitars; 02.04.07 at 10:52 AM. Reason: 'cause I can't spell check before I post it ;-)

I was there last night too, Rol. Threw down some beers with Jeff (from the VH Store).
I though it was a great show! Nothing but classic VH tunes........

I saw the Punks here in the Twin Cities in December and also made note of Lance's not-quite-it "Cathedral." I don't know if he can't play it or just wants to do his variation of it. I also noticed he didn't do a lot of tapping stuff super well. Nonetheless, he's a great player, a nice guy, and does well with the Punks.

Guys go watch a bootleg from the 1984 tour. That'll explain his "Cathedral".

I have seen the 1984 tour live, and have a bootleg from that same tour and Cathedral at least in my boot and also what I saw live was played the same way he's played any other time I have seen or heard him play it , are you saying Ed did it a different way at some point ?

I believe he's picking it rather than doing the volume swells...Russ use to do the same thing. Actually, I've heard Russ do it both ways.
Ralph once told me it was because doing it with volume swells it's not loud enough.
Either way, it rocks.

I was at that show Saturday as well and I agree to a point about Lance's Cathedral. I didn't mind it too much, I was just happy that he seems to fit into the band better. The first couple of times I saw him he seemed a bit too stiff. It was a tremendous set list though, and the house sound was pretty solid. It's too bad we had to witness Frankenshred though, although I did take my brothers-in-law early just to see the trainwreck.

the show was awesome imo ,except he needs to do Cathedral the correct way it simply did not sound good at all, I emailed him and he said his delay
got turned up to fast and he didn't catch it so maybe I need to hear it with his correct settings, the guy is awesome no doubt .
As for Frankenshred those poor fuckers get to open for everyone at the Marquee, some people never learn ;-)
did you catch the Rush Tribute band ? they were uncanny the singer was on the $$ and did you catch their name ?
