VH ask for too much $$$ for UK appearance...

    http://www.classicrockmagazine.com/p...rock_2007_very

Classic Rock is sad to report that the Monsters Of Rock Festival - which made a storming comeback at Milton Keynes Bowl last year with a bill that included Deep Purple, Alice Cooper and Journey - is almost certainly on the back burner for 2007.

A source close to the MOR camp told us that given the availabilities (or lack of same) of several key artists, the staging of a Monsters Of Rock event this year is looking "very unlikely indeed".

Many big-name artists have already announced shows of their own this summer, or are committed to rival festivals. Ozzy Osbourne is playing Wembley Arena on June 19 (the same month that MOR 2007 would have been staged) while Iron Maiden are headlining the Download festival on June 10. Maiden are likely to be joined by the likes of Motley Crue and Saxon at Download, making it a significantly 'trad metal' day.

Meanwhile, Van Halen - reunited with frontman David Lee Roth, although we are still awaiting 100 per cent confirmation of that fact - are thought to be asking too much money to make an MOR appearance viable.

Rumor has it that they're asking for 1 million per show and that many European promoters said no. It's what they got in 2004 with Sam, so I guess they don't wanna get out of the house for under a mil, these days.

I think I'm gonna stay in bed too tomorrow... sigh...

Maiden and Motley Crue on the same bill, man would I love that!
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Good for them.

I was hoping they weren't going to part of a "festival" type of show.

Didn't VH get 1.0-1.5 million dollars for one night at the US festival in '83?

its a pity coz the uk leg of the vhIII tour was cancelled and the last time they played here was supporting bon jovi (although they did make jovi look like amatuers)
its sad that uk fan might not get a chance to see vh with roth again as the last time was 1984 at the monsters of rock so i would have thought the monsters of rock would have been a perfect show fo them followed by a full uk/european tour....so ed if u are out there get it sorted

They should come here. We'd take them for free, do the brown M&M thing, etc.

That was a VH blunder over the years--not doing more to increase their European fan base.

If they are indeed asking about the same as what they did in '04 (which was right around the 1 mil mark), it means ticket prices will be at least as high ($100 or more) and there's the chance there will be lots of cancelations if they don't sell well in some cities. So the proposed "trainwreck" might have more to do with business than personal issues. Of course there is still no official tour, so this is merely speculation.

Cheap flight to NY and concert tickets should be pretty cheap with the current exchange rate.
