    Default Memory Question

I had 1 GB of memory and I wanted to add 1 GB more. I looked on Dell's website to see which type of memory my system already had in it. It said pc-5300 DDR 667, so I ordered that kind. It came in, I installed it and I was curious to see if the old memory was pc-5300 so I took it out and looked. It's pc-4200. I know the new memory will run at the lowest speed which is pc-4200. Should I go through the trouble of shipping it back to get pc-4200? How much difference would it make speed-wise if I get the correct memory? I'm kind of confused now that I think about it. If the the pc-5300 will run at the lowest speed then isn't it just like having pc-4200 in there?

    Thanks for your help!

You're correct, the PC5300 will basically default to the slower PC4200 speed, however I don't see that as much of a problem. With most systems, you won't really notice much of a difference, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Did the PC-5300 cost a lot more? If not, I think you would just leave it as is.

Actually, the PC-5300 is around $10-$20 cheaper than the 4200.
