Alternate concert idea's
while we pine away with the usual back and forth and the no official news, we can only speculate what will happen on the stage, should it come to fruition. What we've seen so far, including the absence of mike, leaves alot of room for discussion.
I thought of a couple idea's that i can see happeneing IF Ed and co. really want to get out of their typical box and enjoy the shows for themselves as well and to add extra dimension for us fans. iM HOPING Some of you will think wishfully outside the perverbial box AND add some of your own..
Here's three idea's to start with, in no particular order, that i would enjoy:
1. On ed's solo spot, instead of the tired retread he's been pulling out for yrs, i'd love to see him just go off on some tunes he admires from other musicians..like playing "Crossroads" by clapton and just EVHing it. Or something from Stevie ray vaughn, or some Zeppelin or whatever he seems to be inspired by..maybe weave some eruption, spanish fly and some riffs from deep cuts in there...whatever..just anything that truly inspires and cvhallenges him as it did when he seemed to love performing live.
2. Since it's basically dave and the vh FAMILY as the musicians, Dave playing Ice cream man on acoustic and then ed coming in electrically..
3.This would be my favorite actually..I'd love to see the bros and wolf exchange instruments and jam together, like im sure they do in the studio.
We know ed can play all the instruments, we know al can play drums, keys and some guitar and we know wolf can at lreast play bass and some guitar, possibly drums. Each guy, taking some turns on each instrument, just letting it hang out, even if it isnt great, but having fun, and lettin dave improvise on vocals, stories, etc. I just think it wopuld really help the dynamic of the show and the interaction w/ fans and the boys would get to really have fun..in fact, i'd take this as a replacement for all separate solo spots if that were my choices..
Anyone else like any of these and/or have ur own idea's?

I thought this was going to be another thread on The Police Reunion.
Or at the very least Genesis.

How about this pipedream:
During the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony (actually backstage) Eddie and Michael actually make peace and the tour will include Mike after all!
However, not excluding Ed's son as the original plan, have him part of the tour and join the guys on stage at different intervals much like he did on the 2004 tour.
I know it sounds far fetched but crazier things have been said and done with this band!
Sound like a plan Ed?
Here's hoping!Bono Vox: Poetic, Political, extremely generous and just a tiny bit egomaniacal.
"You know twenty-five years ago, Tony Soprano was driving around Jersey in his iroc-Z just blasting the Van Halen"-David Lee Roth
"Will there be a Van Halen reunion? “I have hope and faith, and that’s more than just the name of a couple of strippers from Albuquerque” -David Lee Roth
"This band is three quarters original, one quarter inevitable" -David Lee Roth~2007
"“We had a lot of fun on the tour – Dave was a blast. And next time we go out, we’re going to have some new stuff, too. I’m looking forward to getting on it. I’ve got tons of music written, such a variety of stuff… Actually, next week or the week after, Wolfie, Alex, and I are gonna start jamming. Maybe we’ll give Dave a call and see what he’s up to.” - Edward Van Halen ~ 2009

A couple of idea, none of which will come to fruition but:
First, obviously try to get Mike back and have some new music.
Second, no solos besides Ed and Ed trims his solo to under 10 minutes
Third, setlists that change from one night to the next
Fourth, about a blog of some sort on the VH website where stories and pics can be posted by the band as the tour goes on
Fifth, also on the official site, polls for each show where the audience gets to select a song. let the audience in St. Louis vote to whether they'd like to hear Feel Your Love Tonight, The Full Bug, or Atomic Punk at their show for instance
Sixth, if they are going to do premium packages, try to come up with something unique and worthwhile, rather then the usual trinkets
Seventh, do something for the real fans. The people here at the Links or other places on the net who still support them. Maybe give them first chance to buy tickets?
Here are some ideas which don't have a snowball's chance in hell of happening

Here's an alternate idea for ya': Ed, Al and Dave kiss Michael Anthony's feet, live on stage, at Madison Square Garden/Pay-per-view and beg him to take them back!
Ed and Al have sunk so low that I'm not surprised they kicked Mike out, but I didn't think that Roth was soooo desperate that he'd go along with it. It's disgusting.http://www.myspace.com/pennydreadfulnj

1.) I'd like to see them do a couple cover tunes like they did in the past (ie. Summertime Blues).
2.) Maybe take a request from a fan in the front row.
3.) Have a fan sing a Hagar song.Remember the Heroes - 9/11/01

Well let's see:
1. Of course have the whole gang beg Mikey to rejoin the band and announce an "Official CVH" reunion.
2. Record and release via their web page the reunion shows. Kinda like Metallica does with "The Vault" on their page.
3. Go back and listen to the die hards and realize what tunes we would like to hear instead of the usual "hits" that we get. Play; On Fire, Hear About it Later, Secrets, House of Pain, Light Up the Sky, etc.
4. Finally, it would be nice to see a little appreciation for all of us that have stuck around during the dry times and have the band go throught he vaults and find enough unreleased material for a box set and then have some of those tunes appear on the current tour.

My alternate concert idea is to spend my money on Bog Seger.
Sammy did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.
