    Default Where is the excitement?

I thought after all these years I would be jacked to see Dave back in VH. I have been to every Dave concert in South Florida in the past 5 years. If a life long VH and Dave VH fan is not too excited to see the proposed lineup, will the Dwindling Rock fan be? Some of the reasons may be as follows:

    • The thought of seeing a band that will most likely play only one song (Me Wise Magic) that was written after 1984.
    • Dumping MA. If the Beatles would have got together in 1979 and dumped Ringo for some dumb ass reason, many Beatles fans would be pissed.
    • A 16 year old kid who has not been to the junior prom, playing with 3 guys around 50 years old. Are we really expected to believe a kid playing bass can add something more than MA to VH?

The final straw could be Eddie ruining the RRHOF. It is clear that Sammy and Mike would perform and I am sure Dave would at least play separately from Sammy. If they do not play at all it is clearly on Eddie.

If 5 years ago on this board we said you could have a VH with Dave but Eddie would be doing a porno soundtrack and seen around town toothless. MA would be fired. There would be no new music even though Eddie has 10 CD’s of material in the can and Eddie said he would never do a nostalgia tour. Also his kid would be in the band. Wouldn’t we all be horrified that this would end ugly and tarnish the legacy of a great band?

It's just one disappointment after another with this band at the moment.
“And what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever – that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both – that’s intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion.” - David Lee Roth

The Excitement got out of the bag, ran a few feet, then Eddie shot it down. That's where the Excitement went.

This is post number 1,000 for me.

I generally stay positive (albeit sometimes slightly sarcastic and/or cynical--for the humor effect) about most things, but I agree that it is difficult to be excited for Van Halen in '07 and beyond. I would have rather had an official announcement in '99 or '00 that VH was officially done, rather than hearing all of the "continuing to work on their next album" and "ten albums' worth of material" talk. There's been three new VH songs released since 1999 and two Eddie drum-machine porn tunes. From all that's been said, the band initially planned to continue on with Sammy after the '04 tour--which also probably would have been extended--and that probably would have meant a return to regular recording and touring that would have INCLUDED Mike. Sammy couldn't work with Eddie, though; I think we've all seen why. The present state of Van Halen now is not unlike a television show well into its final seasons; often shows count on viewers to hold an emotional attatchment to the characters, so crisis and personal events (weddings, babies) are exploited to the Nth degree. I think--or at least it feels like--Dave's return and the long anticipation of it is something Ed always considered to be a "wild card" he could play at any time. However, general fan reaction to the potential '07 tour now may very well be evidence that the wild card had a shelf life.

I wish post 1,000 had been more positive.

There is never any momentum. You get some great news followed by silence or a drawback.

I'm still thrilled about seeing DLR and VH but when nothing has been formally announced, you lose anything gained.

All the mikey-lovers and Eddie Haters are ruining any excitement. I understand why they feel the way they do, but they are constantly ranting/raving/attacking/ in every single thread related to this supposed reunion and its tour.

Wolfie is not Mike, but he's more than ok.
Mike is gone, but not forgotten. They played some amazing shows from 2007-2015; some people are in denial about it.

    Where's the announcement?
Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett

I haven't been too vocal about anything VH lately. I should be excited. I want to be excited. But..something just aint right. The more and more I think about this so called reunion, the more it makes my stomach turn.

Yea I can get to see Ed and Dave on stage together finally, but will it really be worth it?

This "band" has done nothing to garner any of our love and dedication. Any feelings of adoration that these guys had for us died with Ed Leffler. This aint the Van Halen I grew up with, and it'll never be that way ever again. Especially without Michael Anthony.

Die hard fans have been waiting since 1985 to see all four original members, just to get robbed once again. It's not right to me.

Still haven't made up my mind on if I'm going yet because I know what this is all about. No new music, no new anything. Just the same ol shit, different toilet.

Well, first of all, we haven't even heard anything officially yet.

More importantly though, with Mike out and Wolfie in, it just takes so much wind out of those sails. Had it been a true reunion, I would already be mapping out which shows I'd travel to, which ones I'd do premium packages for, budgeting a ton of money to spend, and happily counting down the days till it happened. I would be so excited that it almost wouldn't even matter how good the show was. Instead......

I'll go to one local show. Probably won't get premium seats, and enter somewhat half-heartedly. Anything less then a great performance and I'll leave very disappointed.

Are you not getting why people are upset? This whole thing sounds like a mess at every level, that's why people are bummed. Nobody's trying to rain on your parade. They're not out to ruin your good time, it's a fact that this thing isn't sounding as good as it should. Deal with it.

Only Eddie could fuck up a slam-dunk reunion by somehow throwing his 16-year old kid into the mix. Nonsense.

The more days that pass without an official announcement the less excited I become. I have a feeling that Dave is going to tell the brothers to shove this "reunion" up their collective asses and tell them good luck since Ed thinks anyone can sing for the band.

We're not Eddie Haters. If he did this right, with Mike, we wouldn't be so hard on him.

    Simple as that.
